I have finals Tuesday and am planning on picking this up along with several other games on my way home for break. Since I packed up all my games for the trip home on Saturday getting it any sooner would be pointless, anyway. I look forward to trying the multiplayer with a friend of mine who's just as obsessed with Mario games as I am, though he's much better at them than I am.

Not to worry, if you come to a difficult part that you can't get past, you can ask him to pick you up and carry you through.

I'd never let him do that, not even if it meant never beating the game. Besides, it's not that I'm not good at Mario, he's just insanely good. I can beat the 2D Marios without too much trouble, he can beat them without losing a life.

Why not? Then you wouldn't have to bog down the flow of the game. If it means that much to you then go back and beat the part later on your own.

The nagging feeling of not being able to beat something doesn't go away for me when someone beats it for me; I have to do it myself. I wouldn't be able to enjoy beating a game if I didn't beat it myself, even just one part.

Care to enlighten me?

If I let someone finish part of a level for me so that I could continue, then I might as well sell my manhood and join your little ladies club.

It's not always about just seeing the ending, but  about accepting the challenge of the game and being able to defeat each one necessary to complete the game. The only way it would be acceptable, is if the game was designed for it to work like that(SMB3 & SMW). I have many games that are unbeaten because I probably got stuck at some part and couldn't get past it, but that's better than having a handful of games that were beaten by me, except for the really hard parts. [/whiny girl voice]

if my friend were going to beat all the hard parts for me, then he might as finish all the games for me too.

Man ego. That is the main reason.

damn right.

On Saturday I had to get up really early in morning to help my brother with something.  We were outside at dawn in the middle of nowhere and it started to snow very lightly.  It reminded me of way back in 2001 at the Gamecube launch.  I was all hyped up for the new console and for the first time ever a new Nintendo console was coming out and I had a job and had the money to actually buy the thing on day one.  I had it pre-ordered and was ready to pick it up the second the store opened.  But I didn't get to partake in that moment.  My friend's birthday was the day before and he wanted everyone to go out to a farm in Pemberton to launch model rockets with people he had met online.  It was similar to Saturday in that it was mid-November in the middle of nowhere and it briefly snowed.  Only Pemberton is several hours from home; we had to stay in a hotel in Whistler overnight.  And I also have no interest in model rockets and only went to be a good friend.  The only console I ever pre-ordered and bought on day one and I had to send my Dad to get it for me because of my friend's birthday.

It seemed rather fitting for me to be thinking about that on Saturday because the very next day that very same friend decided to celebrate his birthday.  It isn't even his birthday yet - he could easily have waited until next weekend.  He also sprung this on me with only a day's notice.  New Super Mario Bros. Wii was a day one purchase for me and it's been a long time since I wanted a game this bad.  I had every intention of playing it all day yesterday but, no, my friend's birthday had to interfere again.  So I own New Super Mario Bros. as I was able to buy it yesterday.  But I have not yet played it.  Today's work day is going to go by in slow motion.  I was planning on going to my parents for dinner tonight but am going to blow it off and visit them tomorrow instead so I can play.  And what's funny is I told my Mom this and she's totally cool with it.  Yes, my Mother, who hated videogames when I was a kid, is more understanding than my friend who is the same age as me.  Go figure.

I'm glad that I got to pick up Mario on a Sunday, as it gave me more time to play it during the day. Still, I confess to being a little disappointed at the lack of a midnight launch at Gamestop. I didn't get to the store exactly at opening time Sunday morning, but there was no crowd and no sense of excitement for the Mario launch. The one time I go into Gamestop wanting to see a zoo, and it's virtually empty. The clerk just handed me the game and swiped my card. This what I want EVERY OTHER TIME at Gamestop. But on Mario Day, I wouldn't have minded a little fuss.

Also, it's silly that Nintendo is shipping the black Remote/MotionPlus/Nunchuk a day later than Mario. I would have happily picked up everything at once, but instead I have to make a special trip just to buy the new controller.

Mario wont be gracing my house until the 25th of December, then of course its off to in-laws to celebrate the lord and stuff our selves doing it.  Then.. on the way home, everyone will be too tired and stuffed to play the game.  So, 10-11 pm that night is the time I get to play!

Oh so the new black controllers are out today then huh? I was in the best buy thinking... maybe they have the black wiimote. Then I said nah, it probably wont be out until December.

Gonna get one today.

Well I was going to buy this game today but find myself unable to now.

I got sick with something on Saturday night and was bedridden all day Sunday.  Even though I'm able to actually move today and type this message, I'm still not healthy enough to go out and buy this game.

Looks like I'll have to wait a few more days.  :'(

Hope you get better Luigi Dude.
Think of it this way once you aren't sick you can enjoy the game to the fullest. Maybe play multiplayer with your friends.

I understand all of that, but I'd think that co-op would be a different case. Why would you want to sit there for an hour falling down a pit over and over and over, boring the other players? What happens if you lose all your lives and the other players beat the level without you? Are you going to make them play it again? You can always go back later and complete the game by yourself. It isn't a sign of weakness, it is a sign of intelligence.

Why don't you consider the various powerups in the game as "help"? They're essentially the same thing. You're not a real man unless you complete the game without getting so much as a single super mushroom.

I will admit that co-op is a bit of a different situation, but I still wouldn't like it and it would take a long time for me to give up. Power-ups are part of the game, it's not the same (though I suppose you could use that argument in favor of the Super Guide as well), and there are different degrees for them (using a mushroom or a leaf in SMB3 versus a P-wing or a Jugem's Cloud). Even going to GameFAQs or using a strategy guide is different from letting someone else do it for you.

Having your partner pick you up and carry you is a part of the game. I'm pretty sure it was intended for players to do that because some parts can be pretty tricky if everyone tries to go independently.

Though, as long as anyone you are playing with is patient then it wouldn't be a problem.
