At first I was like "pff" when you said it looked like a blatant ripoff, because I hear that get bandied about all too often.

Then I watched the video.

Still, like you said, it looks interesting. Like Zelda+DMC+GoW. Could be amazing, could suck. What they really need are some gigantic epic environments.

I'll take it but I think it's kinda weird how HD games insist on having blood splatter everywhere.

Personally I think Twilight Princess got the mature Zelda look down fine.  If Zelda looked like this it would look... wrong.  But as a different series the look suits this game fine and looks pretty cool.

I'm very leery of Zelda clones though.  Zelda is so good that every clone doesn't feel right.  Even acclaimed games like Secret of Mana fail to grab my interest because they just don't do it as well as Zelda.  I'm a bit of snob when it comes to that genre.

That game looks like it's ripping off the visual style of WoW to me... :pukes:

I agree with Ian though, Zelda games should either be in Wind Waker or Twilight Princess styles depending on the content of the story.  Both are outstanding and don't need to be overhauled.

Flaming horses and Mark Hamil voicing your character's keeper. This looks like a good bit of fun. Also, it comes out early in January 2010!

I just beat this. It was okay. Won't win any awards for originality. It's Zelda + God of War, but worse than both. They even ganked the collectathon from Zelda which begs the questions, why copy the worst part of every Zelda game? Some of the puzzles are WTF. Games like Darksiders make me wonder why the developers even bothered. Not that it's a bad game, but it's so unoriginal that I could easily play any of the games that it tries so hard to be like and be content.

The story was interesting if a bit predictable. It had a couple plot twists towards the end that weren't really that mindblowing. I had fun with it, but it's not a keeper. I'm trading this in to put towards God of War 3.

See, I played through the demo which recently came out and I was actually pretty impressed.  Maybe it was because I've been itching to get some news on the new Zelda, but it really seemed to scratch that Zelda itch.  Who knows when the next Zelda will come out, but this certainly felt like a great hold over game.  Having played through the whole game, does it continue to feed that need?

Yeah, everyone can see how it drew inspiration from Zelda and God of War, but was no one else reminded of Krull? I had to watch that movie again after a friend showed me this game because I couldn't get it out of my head...

I'm talking about KRULL. With an "R"!!! It's like a British Star Wars/Prince Valiant. And it was Darkside Chronicles' glaive that reminded me of the titular weapon in that 1983 film.

The Kevin Sorbo film was KULL.

...I watched them both. T_T

Krull was the **** back in the day with that boomerang blade thing he had. I forget what it was called, but I used to love that movie.

I came away from Dark Chronicles with the sensation that the developers must have been really excited to throw everything they thought was awesome about Zelda, God of War, and Krull into their game.

I know what you mean. I just played the demo tonight as a friend's house and it sold me on eventually getting the game once I get an HD console.

I was quite surprised by this title and enjoyed it quite well minus the story which was sadly disappointed.  I love anything to do with portals and you get a few puzzles later in the game that were great.  Gets me excited for the next Portal 2 :0.

Wow, that really is a Zelda rip-off. I saw the Hookshot, spin attack, removing spider webs, climbing vines, etc. Definitely shows where they got much of their inspiration.

Actually alot of games have similar ideas and it wasn't nintendo that invented them--nintendo gets credit for making a standard.  Games had grapple hooks long before Zelda and it's based on a device that's exists in the real world.

Just about everything has been done before one way or another.  While it's nothing "new" still doesn't mean it's bad.  It's still a decent rip-off and that should count for something.

I just finished this game the other day (thanx Steam, more than worth my $5). Zelda rip-off? sure. GoW inspired? of course. Weapon idea from Krull? Most definitely.
But it was fun and interesting. The back tracking was a little annoying, but it is mostly all optional.
And for as fun as the first one was, I can only imagine how they are gonna do the sequel now that his 3 partners in crime are on their way

Hookshot, "boomerang", sword with spin attack, horseback fighting, larger than life bosses, shadow fight, hidden chest, fetch quest, weapon and armor upgrades, lots of blood and souls, grave yard, swimming, puzzles, adventure, flying gliding, climbing, swinging, portals, sand worms, guns, bombs, decapitation, dismemberment, exploding carcasses, snatching hearts from the chest of live creatures, parallel dimension, annoying companion and a bad ass main character. I think this game pretty much has it all in there (except for sex, nudity & Fishing.... can you believe that there was no fishing in this game!?).

I await Darksiders II on WiiU. If it's as least as good as this one was, it will be worth the play through (and I don't finish many games anymore).

Darksiders II takes place at the same time as the first one, just in a different area. I expect pretty much more of the same because Vigil Games hasn't the slightest clue what originality is. Not that it will necessarily be bad, but I'm sure it won't stray too far from the original. That worries me a bit because I struggled to finish the first game.

Are you sure because the end of the first one leads you to believe that the story continues right where it left off. The other 3 horsemen where on there way to earth as the 7th seal was broken.

What I found odd though was that the final boss was the easiest in the whole game. I don't think he hit me more than once, and that was only because I miss-timed the kill button. But struggle to finish? No, I beat the game in about 6-7 days and I was into it the whole time. It's basically a M Rated Zelda and I don't see anything wrong with that, especially since I couldn't be bothered to finish Twilight Princess yet needed my Zelda fix. This fulfilled it and now I'm ready for Skyward Sword.

I bought the game on Steam last winter for cheap. It was short and easy, but generally held my attention. The art style was nice, and it outdid Zelda in a lot of ways. I'd play the sequel if it were on sale for cheap as well. :P

I've tried multiple times to get into DarkSiders playing the demo, and I just could never motivate myself to finish that demo.  The 90s "EXTREEEEEEEME!" art style and God of War-esque combat just really turned me off, and I got bored quickly.  I've heard very good things about it, though, if you can get past that art style.
