Which NES game should I get?
« on: October 27, 2009, 07:41:30 PM »
People who paid for the Internet Channel recently received their credits for an NES game, and I'm having trouble deciding what I should get. I've been considering these and would like some opinions on them:

Bubble Bobble
I've heard it's a good arcade game but I'm not sure. How difficult is it?

Adventures of Lolo 2
I like the first one and also Toki Tori on WiiWare which is similar; is this one just as good?

River City Ransom
Heard it was a side-scrolling fighter with RPG elements, but also that it is much harder without a co-op partner.

How long do I have to redeem the game? Because I was also thinking of waiting to see if anything I want gets released soon.

I am not sure of when you you have to redeem the title but those three titles are very good.
Bubble Bobble is very good and pretty easy.I think you need two players to finish the game.

Kairon recommended Adventure of Lolo to me and I love it. You need patient with the game.

River City Ransom I haven't beaten yet. The only thing that is somewhat confusing is how the food boosts stats but I think that can be remedied by checking online or asking someone here.

Kid Icarus!

That game is impossible.

I still haven't made it off the first level after how ever many attempts it says I took in the "Most played games" thread

You have until the end of November to pick your game. From that list, I liked Bubble Bobble best, but there's a WiiWare game that has the same thing, plus much more, for only a dollar more. So...River City Ransom is my vote.

The only game from that list that I have is RCR and I wouldn't recommend it.  I know there's a strong following for the game, but I just don't see what's go appealing about it.  It's a pretty simply beat 'em up with some mild RPG elements added.  It's not that great.

Why are you limiting yourself to NES?  Take those 500 points and add them to some other points to get something more expensive.  I know you're not a fan of VC and there are a lot of WiiWare games worth playing.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Yeah, it kind of gives me the vibe that it was good for its time but isn't of much worth today. Plus I'm not that into fighting games, the Double Dragon ones were okay but only in co-op.

Because I don't have a choice. The free NES game isn't being offered as 500 points, it is an update to the Shop Channel which allows one free download of an NES game.

Indeed.

Yeah, and only DD2 and DD3 had co-op. I didn't realise that when I bought the first on the VC.

I'd recommend any of the Castlevania's, but I don't know if you've played those or not.

I checked the message again and it says I have until the 31st of December, so I think I'll wait and see if anything else pops up. I'm hoping for Adventure Island 2 because I remember playing it but never owned it.

If nothing comes up then I'll probably go for Adventures of Lolo 2 because the cartridge isn't cheap.

Adventures of Lolo is more of the same GREAT GAME.  Definitely a must-have since you enjoyed the first.

Adventure Island 2, along with Adventure Island 3, are, in my opinion, the best Adventure Island games out there.  Probably because I love dinosaurs you can ride.  It's been years since I played them, but it would be worth it to pick them up if my memory serves.

Hmmm, other than that, I'd say you could consider SMB The Lost Levels, if that's available.  If you were thinking about picking it up, now would be the best time, since you're getting a free NES game, and not 500.  It's one of the best values, is all I mean.

The 600-point titles aren't eligible. Besides, I already have that in Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Brothers Deluxe.

Yeah, I played through most of RCR with a friend and playing with him was fun. I don't think it would be quite as fun playing solo.

Do you already have Kirby's Adventure on cartridge?  If not, this just became a no-brainer!

Get Yoshi's Cookie, because maybe if it sells well enough on the VC they'll give me the DSiWare version of it that I yearn for.

Sure do. That was my first Kirby game, and it's still impressive what they managed to squeeze out of the NES hardware.

Get Yoshi's Cookie,
I have the SNES version. And I doubt these freebies will be counted as a sale.

It would count as a D/L which shows that people still have interest in the game. That could encourage Nintendo to either make a new one or port it to the DSiWare Shop (once that fabled DSi Virtual Console actually comes out).

I'd rather get something I want than get something I already have which may or may not result in the creation of something I don't need.

I wasn't saying you should. I was merely pointing out that a D/L of a free game still has some chances to impact the title's/series' future.

I picked up Super Mario Bros after hear the difficulty feature in the latest RFN show.  Damn.  I lost a step.  I can only make it to level 8-2.  Shame.  Shame.

Bubble Bobble is a 99 level grind fest and there are no continues.

I never cared for River City Ransom, something about the control and graphics threw me off on this one.

Adventrues of Lolo 2 is my pic.  Here is a sample for you..  http://www.everyvideogame.com/arcade.php?mode=play&g=23

EDIT  ::  why not take your favorite NES game and gift it too someone you care about!
