LOL, it's also in a song or two. I recall a song where someone was singing about how his daughter was the apple of his eye.
Ironically, that phrase is not how it originally went. They changed it to something more familiar to old English speakers from the Hebrew because the original phrase made no sense to people. And here it is happening again where the 'new' phrase makes no sense to people nowadays. I love language!

The original phrase in Hebrew was more akin to "the little man in God's eye". Think of getting inches away from another person's face and then looking in their eyes to see your reflection in their eyes. The reflection is know as the 'little man'. Weird, huh? Languages are always evolving and changing. Hence we get to make crazy threads like this with a lot of phrases that mean close to nothing to us today. It's like the circle of life for words!
