Plugabugz' Playstation Plural Playground. Pie.
« on: August 27, 2009, 01:59:41 PM »
So. I got a PS3 Obese this week. I wanted a new console to balance out the Wii, and whichever one reached the sexy price point i wanted (sub £200) would win. PS3 for £179 in a "damaged box" got it for me. The 360 Elite only just got to £200 this week.... 7 days too late.

The seal sticker was removed but that was it. The dual shock wasn't even paired to the console! Nothing was changed or even used it seems.

First game in was Burnout Paradise while i wait for my save file from my bro's japanese PS3. And then i waste 90 mins for all the save files to update. That was my day done.

Tomorrow i return to the Wii and force myself to play more Super Mario World.

I added caliban and someone else to my PSN list, but i dont know who it is! IF you got a "who are you?" message from me, please tell me you're NWR username!

So the Pro was more than 200 GBP before? Wow, I paid 200 Euros for one and that was before the pound hit the shitter.

The Elite was £229. I didn't want the Pro.

My decision was entirely based on that of price. CAG was continually serving up PS3 games cheaply. Wii games not so much... tho punch out is now £22. I've got 6 PS3 games and paid no more than £20 each.

How funny, that's how I bought most of my GC games.

Is it a crime to pay full price? :p

Today i tried Wipeout HD and Uncharted. Wipeout... i don't get it. Namely because there seems to be zero introduction or easing into the gameplay. I got lost in seconds. It doesn't seem to feel as fast as F-Zero GX either.

Uncharted, aside from the FPS'y bits (i always have trouble on dual analogs) i really like this game. I'm in chapter 2 running out of the temple right now, and the lack of a map GUI on screen makes it real easy to get lost. But the checkpoints feel nicely balanced. And i actually like the voice dialog.

Burnout i'm refusing to play until i get my save file back. *sulk*

Wow, another person that likes Uncharted after they've actually played it.  Will wonders never cease?

Give WipEout a chance.  Great game.  Also use a ship with high handling for learning the courses.

I've always wanted to play it. But i've wanted more to not pay megabucks for it - this is a recurring theme for anything HD with me... i will pay what i consider appropriate and not a penny higher. So when i found it for £20... BOUGHT. The platformy bits feel light and fun and require some thought but don't destroy my brain. I often found myself stopping to listen to the dialog because it seemed integral.

The Elite was £229. I didn't want the Pro.

Why not? The differences are pretty small. AFAIK it's only 60GB more HDD space and an included HDMI cable (which is no longer included apparently). You can get the cable for like 6€ and 60GB HDD is plenty.

Isn't that how people react to any new system they buy if it's been out for a while? I've done that with the PS2 and the 360 simply because I could, there's a much larger library of past titles than current titles and you can likely find those past titles much cheaper.

I wanted the "full fat" version and not the watered down one. That and i had already started buying my game collection months before i had a console, so i was set to get a PS3 at this point.

I'm a hUge racing fan, and while I bought Wipeout and it blew me away with its graphix I don't' play it too much.  I guess the steering is just too touching for my own personal taste.  Its definitely a great game, just not for me.  On the opposite end of the spectrum is Motorstorm PR.  I love this game b/c you can take many different paths, and the environments look incredible as do the vehicles.  I would highly recommend checking out the demo even though the track they use is one of my lesser favs.

Pure is also great if you're a fan of games like Excitetruck and Excitebike 64.  They recently added a trophy patch and you can probably find it for 10 Euros.

I will give Wipeout another go but i need some sort of learning curve for it for me to get into it.

I'm still blistering through Burnout and loving every minute of it. I'm 65% of the way through (i started it a year ago on my bro's PS3) so i'm coming up to the end. I spent 5 hours on saturday getting 100% on the bikes. There is TONS of content.

Have yet to come back to Uncharted.

I installed the 3.0 system update earlier, and it went through without a hiccup. Then it dropped offline and it took me an hour to find out that its openDNS causing my problems and i have to reboot the router to make onrine work. I need to tweak it more to make the thing settle down.

Yesterday's calamity... I almost thought i wrecked my bro's white PS3 until i found out it was a dodgy router firmware. I panicked my life into little itty bitty pieces...

I have a question. Mods may not like this, but lets ask anyway. My bro has a Japanese PS3. I have a UK one.

We both have the v3 update on our PS3... but he's jealous that mine has BBC iPlayer (UK PS3's only) in the XMB menu while his doesn't. Is there a way to reflash his 3 to a UK firmware?

Glad you're enjoying your time with the PS3, TC.  It really is a great system if given a fair chance, much as pretty much all 3 of the main consoles are under those circumstances.  I don't play many multiplayer games, but if you wish my PSN name is the same as my username here.

As a matter of fact, i will be going into Burnout Paradise to complete a few online challenges later today. Around midnight GMT. Let me know if you want to jump in :D

So after an eternity i have completed Burnout Paradise at 91%. I still have big surf island to do otherwise.

I'm back to uncharted and im really liking it. The voice acting and music is superb. Hiring a better VA may cost more, but that VA doing a better job is free. That's what it feels like in this gaem.

Yeah, the VA was defiantly worth the price, as was spending the time to work on facial animations.  As good as GTA 4's VA was at times, Uncharted 2 puts Rockstar to shame.

What level are you at in your licsence in Burnout?  Sounds like you're definately farther than me.

Burnout Paradise is awesome, as is the first Uncharted.  People laughed when I said that the key to Uncharted 1 & 2 are the facial expressions, but they are.  There are little details in their mannerisms that make the characters feel alive.  It's the best voice acting/cutscene integration I've ever seen in a game...I'd go as far to say that I could watch a full movie comprised of the CG animation.  It's that good.

I just completed it. It's really a fantastic game. The voice acting feels perfectly fluid and i'm looking forward to playing the second one. For now though, I'm playing Littlebigplanet and Motorstorm 2 next.

On the Wii front, all i've been doing is Wii Fit Plus. Is there anything anyone can recommend?
