Video Game Records
« on: July 30, 2009, 08:38:41 PM »
I just set two records on the minigames on New Super Mario Bros. I'm going to submit them to Twin Galaxies.

Has anyone else set any records or ever tried in the past?

I'm fighting my way up the Ikaruga leaderboard as we speak. I'm in the top couple hundred and they're mostly Japanese guys it seems

I was also the first to get 8 million (the highest possible) on a standard difficulty song for DDR Ultramix on xbox and as such my score was cemented there on the leaderboard as #1 forever afaik

I've never set any records as far as I know, but my two biggest gaming accomplishments came during the N64 generation. I beat both Goldeneye and Perfect Dark on 00 and Perfect agent modes and also unlocked all of the cheats in both. I also won various local multiplayer tournaments at Blockbuster.

The only other achievement I think I accomplished was straight 3 stars in Mario Kart DS and I took second in a nationwide tournament about 3 years ago.

Cool. I tried to break the single lap records in Mario Kart DS, but there is one guy who holds all records for that game. At my fastest time, I'm still 4 seconds off.

I'm also trying to break the records for speed runs on handheld games, since most of those games either don't have records set for them or are very easy to beat. Most people, it seems, go for the console versions. I am 1.5 minutes off the Super Mario World record.

I was never big on records really, save for a few times i'd brag amongst close friends, so I never really set out to demolish someones record. Besides, since i was the sole gamer in my home, games that kept records pretty much had my name on the list exclusively :P

However from time to time even i'd get a record so high i'd have to show my friends, just because I couldn't even believe i'd scored so high. For instance, in the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater.. which I just remembered, I didn't even own at the time, i was borrowing it from a friend (of a friend!)..

I got so good at the game, that I could get a massive amount of points in just one heat of the first tournement (i believe it was the Werehouse level). I wish i could remember a specific score, but its been so long. Trust me though, my runs were EPIC. You only get like, 30 or 60 seconds to score big and i went above and beyond.. literally. The game starts you off facing a rail, i grind that and head towards the half pip to the left, do a couple of grab tricks and build up speed, then launch myself off no to a fucking girder floating above the level.

I know it was exploiting a glitch but you gotta keep in mind this was the FIRST THPS, before manuals and reverts and all that ****. You still needed a ton of skill to keep your grinds up and your combos going. I couldn't even stay on the girder for that long (though on rare occasions i would surpass the time limit) but i still had the skill to keep my combos up and whenever my characters balance would be pushed to its limit, i'd pull off a 900 on the way down to the half-pipe again. Seriously, it was Epic.

All that carried on too.. I used to be able to pull runs in the California level of THPS4 on gamecube of well over 5,000,000pts, obviously exceeding the 2-minute limite the game gives you. Oh and did i mention this is all without cheats?

EASYCURE: I remember thinking(don't ask me why) this was a blond haired, blue eyed, chiseled athlete. Like he looked like Seigfried before he became Nightmare.

In Mario Kart 64 I beat a few of the 'top game tester' times that were listed in the players guide. And this wasn't through game exploits. I felt pretty good about that.

I also stomped everyone's time on Deadly Fall (is that the name of the last level?) in the N64 1080 Snowboarding. I was competing in the Nintendo Power contest for that game. I couldn't get the film developed in time to send it in, but it was higher than anyone else who did submit it. I think I still have the picture somewhere. I should look for it.
