Holy cow, this thing is selling like hotcakes.

The ninth installment of the hugely popular Japanese RPG series Dragon Quest has found itself already selling over 3 million copies during its first three weeks on shelves. The research firm Enterbrain Inc. announced that the game has sold 3.2 million copies between its release on July 11 and July 26. According to a report from Agence France Presse, it has become the fastest-selling game for the DS. This comes as no surprise, since Dragon Quest IX sold 2.3 million copies in the first two days alone.

Sells 2.3 in the first couple days, and only gets to 3 after a few weeks?  Sales are dropping off fast.  Nintendo has to come up with that 4th Pillar nonsense soon.

I would have expected more, but these are still solid numbers, that i am sure the developers are pleased to see.

They'd just be ready for "disappointing" numbers when the series bombs in North America like it usually does.

Iwata made a deal with Wada and Hori from Square-Enix to help Square promote the game overseas so I wouldn't discount it yet. I heard that the DS DQ remakes sold decently in North America, not quite on the level of FF but yeah.

What were the sales for the FF Remakes? While I'm asking, the sales for S-E games released thus far including the DQ games?

JRPG's sales have declined quite a lot in the US even FF.

Still I happy with those sales, loved DQVIII and looking forward to DQX on the WII.  I hope they continue with the humor scripts--it's refreshing in RPGs IMO.
