Wow.  Two systems and 45 games for two crappy EA games and Punchout?

Nothing crappy about Tiger Woods 10.  Multiple review sites have called it the definitive golf game, and I do enjoy golf games.

EA Sports Active... well, we'll see.

UncleBob, I've seen your collection, so your reaction is not entirely unexpected or unwarranted. :)

FWIW, I buy very very few brand new video games these days.  Maybe 2 a year, and one of them is ALWAYS NCAA Football on Xbox 360.  So to get 3 of them in one day is a bit like Christmas.

You've only seen part of my collection. ;)

So, what games did you trade in?  Perhaps that will give me some perspective.  Like, did you trade in 10 copies of Madden for the SNES? :)

Haha, fair enough.

Um, the cream of the crop for SNES was probably Zelda, Mario All Stars, Mario World, Out of This World, and Mario Kart.

Cream of the crop for NES was likely Castlevania III, Faxanadu (at least to me, why isn't this on VC yet?!), Kid Icarus, Kirby's Adventure.

There were a few clunkers in there though, like Super NES Play Action Football, and Super Glove Ball.

I should say that I have a lot of respect for a great video game collection, it's just something I'm no longer interested in.  At a certain point, what with finances and all, it became a choice of "keep, or play a new game" and I began choosing "play a new game" more often than "keep. "

There are some modern games I will never trade in, such as any mainline Mario, Metroid, Pikmin or Zelda title.

Also, it's only because a service like VC exists that I'm willing to even consider doing what I did yesterday.

Well, assuming all of the games you sold were released on VC, it would cost $270 to replace them (not including the systems, of course).  I guess if 35% of the games you sold were crap (say, Super Glove Ball), then you're in the clear.  And, perhaps, the games will go to a good home where they'll be loved instead of forced to be secluded in a dark, musty room where no one loves them...

Most of the ones that I feel compelled to replace, I have already done so (provided they're available - FAXANADU) and I dropped $20 onto my balance last night to pick up a few that I hadn't yet (Super Mario World & Castlevania III)

Hmmm... now that I think about it, there's still quite a few classics that haven't come out yet: Out of This World, Flashback, Faxanadu... come on Nintendo, don't you want my $5-$8?

Faxanadu (at least to me, why isn't this on VC yet?!)

I... I... would have kept Faxanadu in cart form even if the apocalypse was bound to rain down on us because of such choice.

The Wii also helped in my financial troubles as well.  I had an amazing amount of old school.  First to go?  Turbo Duo with about 30 games including Castlevania. Then, once my third child was born in november of 2007 it was time to make room, Nintendo finally started releasing fair games on the VC even the neo geo and so I did it.  I went down to the store I worked for and sold them everything from the atari 800 (full set, they used almost all my stuff as museum art for the store), ROB, the Power GLOVE, tengen tetris and so on.  I might miss them, but you know, the infusion of cash and trade credit was needed and with the Wii, I have almost all my wants and needs.   less faxanadu of course.  With that game, came the special memory of Walking pnumonia(sp).  So alas..   at least they will become available one day.

one game though, I fear may never come to the VC and that is Teraforma for the Turbo...

sniff sniff.

Well if it wasn't for people like you selling their old games I wouldn't have been able to amass the SNES game collection I have.  As much as the idea of trading in old games offends me it's better that your old stuff be on a shelf at a store for someone who will appreciate it to buy than to rot in your basement.

i still have my super scope though. Once I get one too many wii motes, I was going to dissect  the wii mote and install it into the scope to make for one neat collectible.

One of these days I want to buy an old SNES controller and hack it into a VC Wii controller.  I've seen instructions for that online.

Of course, I really just wish Nintendo would put out limited edition "Classic" Classic Controllers, so to speak.

I am shocked and appalled you chose not to inform DrewMG of the Pepsi Codes.  He could buy all those games for a fraction of the price you quoted!

If you feel it was the right thing to do then it probably was. There's no use keeping something you never use, and if you later regret it you can always buy it back.

One of these days I want to buy an old SNES controller and hack it into a VC Wii controller.  I've seen instructions for that online.
Haven't third-parties released adapters which allow you to connect NES/SNES/N64 controllers? Seems easier than hacking, I'd think.
