The publisher sees a viable mature market on Wii.

Sega recently revealed to GamesIndustry.biz that their strategy of targeting the mature market should be successful over the long-term. While House of the Dead: Overkill didnt sell millions of copies, it proved profitable for the company according to Gary Dunn of Sega Europe.

"Whilst it had a rather sharp tail at full price, they do bubble away at a lower price point for a long time. You get your money back and a bit on full price, but over the years, if we do the final product return on investment, profits come from the lower price point."

While MadWorld wasn't a commercial success for Sega, Dunn stated that they were happy to take the risk, and that Sega has the budget and resources to invest in publishing and/or developing more mature titles for Wii in the future. The company is currently looking for a new game in which to invest.

Well, SEGA's found something that doesn't make their fans hate them, so you can't blame them for deciding to keep trying to throw unique games at the Wii in the hopes that one of them will do well. I didn't care much more Madworld and found HotD: O to be low on replay value, but the more gamer's games on the Wii, the better. It's kind of ironic that SEGA has turned out to be the savior of Nintendo's most profitable system.

I bought Madworld and I was very interested in OVERKILL, the problem is price and replay value. I wouldn't hesitate to buy OVERKILL for $20 even $30 but $50 is asking allot.

Madworld is a fun game and I enjoyed it, but it had zero replay value after I beat it. I got that for $30 at gamestop months after release because $50 for a 5 hour game is just not excusable.

Now Conduit has a great online mode and I'll replay that for a while, I won't trade that in.

I have NO problem buying Mature rated games for Wii but I want to get the most bang out of my buck. I don't think my thoughts are outside the norm either.

In my case, I just love revisiting old school light gun games because they are short and sweet and provide enough entertainment to last an evening.

With all the money Sega has gotten from Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (and the money they'll get from the sequel) I'm sure they can risk taking plenty of chances on games like these.

Not sure if anyone wants to take a chance on Gladiator, but I'm sure SEGA is all over The Grinder, especially if The Conduit even does ok sales.

Me thinks yes.

If not the gladiator one, then The Grinder for sure because it will be to Conduit what Parfet Dark was to Goldeneye I predict. And if they are happy with Conduit sales then they will most certainly want to get in on the action for a spiritual sequel of sorts.

Also, Winter could be a prime candidate. N-Space is working on a Winter 2.0 demo that is supposed to be even nicer than the first. Since Sega seems so open minded this is a possibility I hope for.

I agree with you. I already know I won't be getting Gladiator. I doubt it will have an easy time getting a publisher. Its niche like Madworld.

I will get Grinder though, I know that just from playing The Conduit online. Though, do you think HVS will go for the "T" again for it? It looks more like a "M" game just from the trailer. If its "M" it won't get anywhere the sales from what we have seen so far.

Thats a great point. Sega is a publisher who is putting out the casual game for $$$ then putting that $$$ back into the Wii where most other publishers are just putting that $$$ into the 360 and PS3.

I can't believe it but, GO SEGA! Then they actually advertised The Conduit it was all over websites and magazines and even TV ads! Go Sega!

I was watching Aaron's direct feed footage of The Grinder yesterday (it's on our Youtube channel, look for it!) and easily noticed several improvements over The Conduit. Sega would be sharp to bid for that one, especially if it has a strong single-player campaign in addition to the local and online multiplayer.

A better single player and an actually local MP would be killer. I also hope they are able to expand and improve the online experience.

they've got more than 12 months to figure it out, so I'm sure they will have everything we've been asking for and everything they couldn't fit into The Conduit too.

Just watched that direct feed and subscribed to the NWR channel. That game i already an "M" game I believe. I will be getting though!

Yeah I think Sega will pick up Grinder, but I see Gladiator being a tough sell unless it has a big hook (oh you know, like Motion Plus only!). Also after finishing Conduit's single player I can't wait to see what the sequel will be like. HVS seems to be eager to learn, regardless of some flaws Conduit has I see tremendous potential in them (I see the same thing in the development studio who made SH5 and SH:O with Silent Hill: Homecoming). HVS has the potential of skyrocking in name recognition.

People won't call the Grinder generic. They'll call it a blatant rip-off of Left for Dead for an audience that otherwise won't have played that game.

though to it's credit. It does have a distinctly different flavor from L4D even if it blatantly rips gameplay mechanics and features. It also sounds like it will be a bit more story driven than L4D which was more like a set of different survival stories. Plus there wasn't all that much story in L4D. It was get from point A to point B and pray everyone survives.
