My Movie day from last weekend: quick reviews
Flight:
Good movie. Flight section contained lots of tense dramatic action. There was some good humor in there too. But Denzel always sucking on his bottom lip in a weird way bothers me to this day. Fortunately John Goodman busts in and makes you forget all about it
Man with the Iron Fist:
Go into this with the expectations of an old-school late 70's/early 80's kung-fu action flick with actual special effects and you might enjoy this obviously niche movie aimed at a very specific audience. Rza was not the best fit for his role as he didn't quite sell the pain and anger associated with his character. so if there is a sequel, hopefully someone else directs (and acts).
p.s. Bronze Lion looks like an asian Brad Pitt, and the head of the Gemini looks like an asian Jimmy Smits. There was even a super skinny asian Dolph Lundgren in there too.
Argo:
Another good movie. I went in thinking it was going to be kinda boring, but it wasn't. The fact that it was based on a true story made it just that much better. I can't say that it had me on the edge of my seat, but i was definitely into the movie. one of the better ones of the day.
Pitch Perfect:
Not as bad as you think, not as good as I hoped. The male lead had a perfect amount of sarcasm where I couldn't tell if his character was for or against anything he comments against/for. Fat Amy was amusing at times. Song selection could have been better. basically this was no Sister Act, but it was watchable, and there will probably be a sequel.
p.s. my girl picked this one, and it was the last weekend it was playing, so I agreed to sit in.
Overall I would rate it:
Flight
Argo
Iron Fist/Pitch Perfect
I wanted to slide in Sinister or Silent Hill, but the schedule just wouldn't allow it.
