It better have a highly scratch and cat resistant solar-and-kinetic powered force field to cover that gaping orgasm of a screen. I bet you can just put it on the table and it will wind up with scratches.

If they use the same kind of glass as the iPhone screen it being exposed won't be a problem; I've had my iPhone for 8 months now and I've used it a ton and there aren't any scratches on my screen.

So far on every site I've seen mention, the comments have been 100% negative. Way to go, Sony!

Also notice the analogue nub is in an even worse position than the old PSP.

It's like they design these things using CAD software, and do no actual user-testing before moving to full production.

The sad thing is that while the old PSP at least looked kinda cool, this one seems just ... dorky.

And of course the sliding mechanism seems likely to make it much less robust with little apparent gain in portability over the old design.

I really don't understand the removal of the UMD slot. I don't think they're going to lure over any customers that actually buy PSP games, movies, etc. You won't be able to buy used games (I guess that's the point) for the PSP GO, so they're really shooting themselves in the big, stupid foot, if you ask me.

The fact that Sony had dropped the crappy UMD format means they are on the right track, and this is a VERY bad thing for Nintendo. You can say what you want about the crappy design and how awful it looks, and you would be right, but the UMD was a ball and chain that would have prevented Sony from ever really dominating the handheld market, but now that's gone.

The UMD was **** but download-only isn't a suitable replacement, the customers are not ready for 100% digital distribution yet.

The UMD was crappy, but it was hardly some kind of singular factor that was preventing people from buying the PSP (like, for instance the PS3's insane price probably was).

Maybe losing it will allow a somewhat lower price point and longer battery life, which is good, but it probably doesn't matter much by this point in the current generation -- the DS is too absurdly dominant.

Small incremental improvements in the PSP (bizarrely accompanied by a worse physical design) may make the PSP's position a bit better, but they don't seem very likely to derail the DS money-train.

Lower price point? Doubtful. Sony's Memory Stick Pro Duo costs way more than comparable (and smaller, and faster) SD cards. I just don't see any point in dropping the UMD, it can't lower costs *that* much, maybe $3 a system or something (talking manufacturing costs). What's going to happen when you're out on the road and want to stop at GameStop or Wal-Mart and buy a game...oh wait, you can't. Okay, then pop in your old games...oh wait, you can't. Download-only on a portable = retarded. At least with cell phones (iPhone) you have an internet connection at all times.

The PSP's bigger problem is the game library anyway, it truly is a Playstation Portable: It delivers home console games that seem designed for lengthy play sessions and don't really work for the short bursts portable gaming needs.

This version is 3 years too late.  I have no interest to add this to my DS/Iphone for portable needs.

If anything, this new system will be more expensive than the regular PSP--it has 16 GB of memory.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!
