Trivial Pursuit for Wii
« on: March 10, 2009, 09:13:45 PM »
I am willing to bet I'm the only that is picking this up, but after the GREAT Smarty Pants from EA I could not help but to be excited on their translation of the popular board game. For those of you unaware, Smarty Pants was released in 2007 in the fall, and was so comprehension when it came to questions that we have NEVER gotten a repeat question even after 40+ hrs of playtime (It had like 22k) because it saves the stats to your Mii. It wasn't the most complex game out there in regards to technology but was clear and did what it set out to do quite well with some fun uses of the WIimote sprinkled in.

ANYWAY, I'm definately going to take this over to my moms and I'm sure we'll have a blast. I'll make sure to keep all you casual game haters posted (along with those non-casual game haters!).

Not overly found of trivia games, but there is definitely an audience for them so fine by me. Did the original Smarty Pants reach a million, or am I think of Game Party?

Well according to VGchartz it hit 1.21 million so I think it is safe to say it was VERY close to it if not past it. The price did drop later on and that probably spurred sales. It is too bad people came in with the perception that $50 was too much when it was released, because it was the most robust trivia game I've ever seen. Most trivia games have 2000 questions or so.

A friend of mine rented Smarty Pants a while back and we played it the entire night, we greatly enjoyed it. Quiz games like Jeopardy! are usually treated as quick cash-ins, so it's great to see some effort actually put into one. Anyone who rags on a game like this just isn't interested in that type of game.

Is this Trivial Pursuit game exactly the same as the board game or are there actually elements which spice things up? Personally I don't see the point in board game conversions unless they offer something more.

The Nintendo Channel has a video of it. It seems to be like a quiz show.

I am thinking about getting it to play with my family. They need a new Wii game since they've begun to lose interest with the ones they have, though it may also be because I refuse to leave Boom Blox since I play that with friends a lot.

Well finally got to play it and it is a really good game, though I wish I would have gotten the Xbox 360 version for the DLC which I do not think comes with this. The questions are varied and it has some fun takes on the Trivial Pursuit board game as well (along with the traditional rules game).

Depends on the game to me. Some board games that can be hard to get people to play in real life due to how long they take (like Risk and Monopoly) are well suited for video game forms since you can easily play a game whenever you feel like it.

Board games with online components can be nice if you don't have many friends around who like them.
