Did you know that 42.8% of percentages are made up on the spot.... or was it 38.6%?

Did you know NPD is 100% right all the time?

All of this talk about statistics reminds me of a quote from a game designer which I think goes something like:
"Nothing screams self-confidence issues like trying to increase a number which you know is meaningless because you made it meaningless."

I've advanced to 2005!

That's right, I got a "new" computer, in the sense that it's new to me. My brother just bought a (real) new computer and so he gave me his old one which he got in 2005. My computer is from 1999 so this is a pretty big step up for me.

This thing is sooo much faster it's incredible. Loading up a huge page of 50 posts on this site is now measured in seconds instead of minutes. I can now watch videos on YouTube using the high-quality setting without them being choppy or delayed. And I'm sure this'll do wonders for my video-editing software; maybe now I can actually EDIT videos without causing choppiness and de-syncing! Not to mention how much faster converting them should be.

Before he gave it to me though, to get rid of all of his old stuff he re-installed Windows. He says this means I'll need to download some drivers to get things like the sound to work... I have NO idea what that means so I'll just have to ask him about that over the weekend.

I think it has something to do with the DMV, Mop_it_up.  You should go ask there.

Eh, it isn't so great. You've got Windows '98 right? That works well enough. A new(er) computer wouldn't be worth paying for.

I think it has something to do with the DMV, Mop_it_up.  You should go ask there.

No I've got XP running on it, but for the longest time before that, well into 2001, my old computer was still running windows 95... Though back then, i didn't use it for any internet purposes for, just had a lot of text and art files saved on it.

Congrats on getting a better computer, Mop it up. It's always fun to get one. I like dumping as much stuff on the HDD and seeing how long it takes me to fill it up.n But ripping all of my CD collection takes time.

How can you guys stand letting your computer get so old? I updated mine about a year and a half ago with what was the best graphics card on the market, new quad core CPU, new motherboard, everything and I feel outdated already!

I never used my computer much for anything but web browsing and music downloading. If i'm doing one i'm not doing the other so any slow down that happens with my outdated POS I can put up with because:

-if i'm downloading music, i'll just play a video game and periodicaly check the download.

-if i'm web browsing, i'm usually just on this site which never takes THAT long to load anyway

I'd love to get an updated system but the fact is there's other things i'd rather spend money on at the moment. The fact that I can get somethign "state of the art" and have it feel outdated a few weeks after my purchase.. well thats just an arms race i'd rather not get in to, seems pointless to me.

Well then you're fine. Your computer should still be able to run anything so you don't need a new computer.

It's always fun to get one. I like dumping as much stuff on the HDD and seeing how long it takes me to fill it up. But ripping all of my CD collection takes time.
It isn't fun. I hate computers. If I'd known there were going to be some things I'd have to set up myself I'd have told my brother to keep it until he can set it up. My old computer actually has more space so I couldn't dump everything onto this one even if I wanted to. So I'm still using both of them, actually.

How can you guys stand letting your computer get so old?
Unless one plays PC games then there is no reason to get a new computer. Things like Internet browsers and MS Word run on any computer and it isn't worth spending money just to make those run a little faster.

The only thing I tend to find lacking is storage space, but getting an extra HDD is relatively cheap and easy to do.

If you look at the right time, you can get a 1TB drive for ~$100

You can get a good 500GB drive for ~$70 on the regular too.

That's not much at all, that's the same as a GameCube game disc I believe. I hope that was a typo...

What do you need such a capable machine for GoldenPhoenix? Do you play games on your PC?
