Ponyo on the cliff by the sea
« on: February 10, 2009, 02:18:33 PM »
I watched this a couple nights ago. It's pretty charming, in the same vein as Wall-E (though admittedly not as well made). The style used is superb, however. It's truly inviting. Even when catastrophe strikes, the style makes you worry less...if that makes sense.

Though I watched it with horribly made subtitles (everyone are worry), the story is charming enough. It's a mix between the Little Mermaid and Majora's Mask; odd sure, but interesting.

If you liked anything else to come out of Studio Ghibli such as Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away, then you'll probably like this (although, I think the other two are better).

I am fascinated, as I've never heard of this.

I didn't think this movie was out yet.  Oh ... wait ... it's Stogi.  Nevermind.

It's been on my Netflix queue for a while now.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Really? It's not?

It was released in Japan in July. I guess it hasn't made it to DVD yet.

The US release seems to have quite a cast, going the same route as the other Ghibli US releases. Having Disney on your back is a good thing.

I don't know about this title though. It seems to be more like Kiki's Delivery and less like Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited Away. I'm going to rent before I make a purchase.

Kiki's Delivery Service is phenomenal (although not nearly as HAWT as I expected from the title).
