I know your wife loves me because she told me last night.  ;D

Happy anniversary!  Wait ... didn't you get married last summer?  Has is really been a year?  Or is this a different kind of anniversary?  ;)

Classic lol.

This was actually for out dating/engagement anniversary (6 years), not wedding anniversary, that's May 25.

I got her ... Personal Trainer: Cooking and roses. Yeah, I know, it isn't Super Mario RPG, but hey she liked it just as well ... well maybe not :P

no offense its a great gesture, but I really think Virtual Console makes this so obsolete.

The battery backup for that game probably is gone already and that cost allot more than virtual console.

For something that I don't think is likely to come to VC because of legal questions now that will be more valuable and worthwhile to me.

There's no better way to cherish a game than to own the original cartridge, especially if it were given to you by somebody that you love. The VC just feels so... artificial.

Those batteries are beasts, do not underestimate them. My original The Legend of Zelda cartridge for the NES still holds saves just fine, and that has to be at least 20 years old. The battery is pretty easy to replace though; all you need is a 3.5mm GameBit (real cheap on eBay), a razor blade, and some electrical tape (though solder works best).

I'm a collector. Virtual Console does absolutely nothing for me. As such, obtaining SMRPG in a box WITH the manual, in near perfect condition is pretty damn near close to orgasmic for me.

Also, as Mop_it_up already said, replacing the battery is actually quite easy.

Oh yeah, and I also had absolutely no idea she was getting this for me! Had I known she was throwing down with this, I probably would've stepped it up :P

Sexism!

Wait.. I guess she changed her mind. Its not sexist to expect women to cook.. hmm...

Seriously though, thats an awesome present. She really loves you to know you'd have a geekgasm over that, hell i would do. My gf bought me a master sword and hylian sheild once, for no reason :)

It would be sexist if you got a woman you barely know a cooking game.

However, chances are Mr. Jack knows a little something about his wife and knows that she would enjoy a cooking game. =P

I remembered how thrilled I was to find only the cartridge of Super Mario RPG.  To me that was one of the highlights of my SNES game collecting.  So to have this gem with box and manual must be pretty sweet.  My top find with box & manual is Super Metroid.  I figure if I ever won the lottery or something I'd update my collection to have box & manual for every game but while I'm still living in reality cartridges are good enough and boxes & manuals are cool bonuses.

Anyone saying "just get it on the VC" just doesn't get it.  That's like telling a guy in a used record store that he can just buy it on iTunes.  It's not just about playing the games.

My ex-wife bought me The Dark Knight Returns statue for our anniversary (while we were still together, duh). Its totally awesome to have someone who knows just how to make a purchase for you that you'll love but couldn't really ask to get.

Also, when I make classic game purchases, I only jump on those that still have the manual and box. If I can be bothered enough to keep that stuff, so can other people. Kids excluded.
