Sequel to 1.5 million-plus seller announced for multiple gaming platforms
London – February 9, 2009 - Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today confirmed that Dead Rising™ 2 is in development for three different gaming platforms: the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment’s PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) and the PC. The sequel to the 1.5 million-plus selling Dead Rising™, Dead Rising 2 will take the franchise to a new level of zombie-killing fun with tens of thousands of zombies, the all new gambling paradise of Fortune City to explore and conquer plus a host of new in-game objects that can all be used as deadly weapons to stave off the zombie assault.

Dead Rising 2 is set several years after the infamous zombie invasion of Willamette. Unfortunately, the zombie virus was not contained at the conclusion of Dead Rising, spreading unchecked throughout the United States and Dead Rising 2 depicts a country where zombie outbreaks continue to strike.

Dead Rising 2 is being developed in partnership with up and coming Canadian developer Blue Castle Games. A number of members from the original Dead Rising team will be working alongside Blue Castle Games throughout the development process, including Capcom’s global head of research and development, Keiji Inafune, who as the game’s Producer will play an active role in the project.

Released in 2006, Dead Rising won praise across the globe for its mix of intense zombie action and dark humour, garnering numerous awards including IGN’s “Most Innovative Design for Xbox 360”, Gamespot’s “Best Action-Adventure Game” for 2006 and “Action Game of the Year” at the 2006 Spike TV Video Game Awards.

Further details concerning the story and gameplay of Dead Rising 2 will be made available shortly.

Not surprised. The ending to the original left it very open for a sequel.

Where's the Wii version, Capcom?  Why should I buy your butchered Wii port of the first game when there's no plans to continue the series on the Wii?  You already decided that the Wii is not to get equal treatment before the Wii port ever came out and yet the PS3 which is the last place console, and never had any Dead Rising game to gauge interest, gets the sequel.  How can third parties expect us to buy any of their games on the Wii when they clearly treat us like second class citizens?  And they started it so I think it's their responsibility to make the effort to "patch up the relationship".

Ian this is not fair anymore and I think you know it. Maybe in Capcom's case but in EAs, Sega's, THQ's, Atlus's, and others it is definitely NOT the case. Look this week we are getting two high quality 3rd party games, Deadly Creatures and HOTD:O. Next month we get Madworld followed by games like Little King's Story, Conduit, Demon Blade, Boom Blox 2, Sin&Punishment 2 and a myriad of others. Oh I cannot forget to mention Tenchu came out and it is a quality 3rd party title as well. This line is no longer valid now unless you are talking about specific companies.

We finally get to see Dead Rising on the PC, huh? That's good, as I'm still unsure of just how fun the upcoming Wii port looks.

Actually Ian Sane has a point.  I was frustrated to see PC up there and not Wii.  PC?  Really.  They expect the PC market to buy this game more so than a Wii version?

I don't expect an exact copy of the game, but you could give it to a talented Wii developer and let them have a shot of taking what you did in the original Dead Rising Wii and coming up with something innovative and interesting, and release it, it would probably see larger units on the Wii anyway.

Ian has a point only in referring to Capcom, if he would have left it there it is fine, but to say that basically all 3rd parties are doing this is extremely unfair considering we're getting 3 very good games all within 2 weeks.

Sweet, I'll get the PC version because my laptop kicks ass. I bet it has great online play, and the PC version will sell pretty well (and be pirated pretty well too). I'm more surprised at the PS3 version than the PC version.

Ian this is not fair anymore and I think you know it.

Though EA has now said differently (we'll see if they walk the walk) I can't think of any third party for which the Wii is their clear target platform.  Considering the Wii is the market leader that's quite ridiculous.  So while there are good third party Wii games being released no third party has shown to me that they consider the Wii their priority.  So I think it's perfectly fair to say they treat us like second class citizens.  We're second class entirely because the other consoles that the Wii outsells have BETTER third party support.

A major game just got announced for every platform BUT the Wii.  That should never happen to the market leader.  I can't think of ANY time it happened to the PS2.  Did any game get released for the Xbox, Gamecube and PC but not the PS2?

Games like Splinter Cell last generation were the exception rather than the rule. The Wii shouldn't be shafted so consistently. For every 1 exclusive, 3rd parties deny it 10 multi console games just to weirdly and nonsensically "balance" things out. It's BS, so on and so forth.

Even with Splinter Cell the PS2 wasn't the only one getting the late release.  It shared that with the Cube.  And it at least got the game and later releases were temporary - by the third game it was getting same day release as the Xbox and PC version.

I have a great idea, buy Deadly Creatures, HOTD: O, and Tenchu IV this week and actually support good 3rd party games. Complaining does nothing if you don't put your money where your mouth is.

In all fairness, Ian to an extend is right.

Third parties KNOW that the Wii is market leader, but still ignore it. Granted, this is slowly changing thanks to the examples Golden mentioned, but they really gotta try to include the Wii.

The Ghostbusters game is a great example of multiplatform releases. Yes, the Wii version is different from the 360/PS3 version but at least its being released and shown at the same time as the HD console versions.

To a certain extend, I understand that downgrading an HD game to Wii standards can be hard because if not done right fans will complain about it (think Dead Rising Wii port). But it can be done, even if it means the game is slightly different from the other versions.

I will be buying Overkill, not sure about Deadly Creatures. I'm unsure of Tenchu since "Wii exclusive" eventually became "also on PSP." Homie don't play that. I don't know if supporting it will help 3rd party support or enable 3rd parties into developing more "also on PSP" multiplatform games.

I understand this issue completely but I think it's more of an issue about the games already out.  Ideally shouldn't new games be made with the market leader as the base platform and then get ported to the other consoles?  That's how it was with the PS2.  You would get Xbox and Gamecube games that weren't really pushing the system because they needed the game to work on the market leader.

Is the Wii just too different?  Obviously there's the big hardware difference and the Wii has a special controller that would make any game that made full use of it unable to be ported to the other consoles.  I guess a good compromise would be to design the game on the Wii to use the classic controller (with waggle controls for those who only own remotes) and then up the textures in the PS3/360 version to meet the basic HD requirements those consoles have.  Though the problem with that is that NO ONE gets something that makes decent use of the strengths of their console.

The best case scenario for us Wii owners that I can see is that third parties just start treating the Wii as their target platform and just don't give the other consoles much support.  They may have to do that eventually.

The game shouldn't be downgraded.  They should take the approach that the Ghost Busters team took.

Give it to a GOOD Wii Developer and allow them to develop the game with the Wii's strengths in mind, but keep the same story and basic game design formula.
