Video Game Ring Tones
« on: October 27, 2008, 09:24:32 PM »
Hello again friends! I just destroyed my last cell phone and in that destruction went some amazing ring tones such as: The Hammer Bros theme, Super Mario bros 2, The sonic level clear song for texts and so on.

Now I don't know where my brother found these rings in the first place so I decided to check the greatest source of word of mouth info on the net, here!

Anyone know where I can find some free ones?

My phone is a little old, so when I first got it I made some sound clips (or downloaded midi files), uploaded them to some temporary webspace, then downloaded them from my phone's browser.  I'm sure these newfangled do-everything phones can just copy the sound clips from a computer via bluetooth.  The phone's manual should have details on it.

If your phone can use MIDIs for ring tones, try vgmusic.com.

Also, if your phone has blutooth, and your computer does too, that's a great way of putting things on there.

Depending on the phone, try http://www.bitpim.org.

Or, check out www.howardforums.com for anything else you want to know about your phone and how to work it.

My G1, one of two ways:

1. Pop the phone open to reveal the micro SD card, plug that into a card reader to my computer, drop the files in the MUSIC folder on the card.

or

2. Plug the USB cable in, Drop the files into the same folder.

Caterkiller's not asking how to transfer the files to his phone.  He wants to know where he can find free sound clips online.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Ah, if only BitPim would work with my phone.  Unofficially it supposedly does, though I can't get it to work.  Ah well, I suppose that's a question for a BitPim forum...

Seems like everyone in the world has the Super Mario Bros. theme.  I need something more niche than that...but what?

Thank you everyone for the help. Though I'm not sure what the heck him doing. I went to these websites and everything only confused me. Do any of you have ring tones? I'm not expecting any of you to send me (almost a complete stranger) any messages. Just wondering if you guys have some good ones?

that Yoshi noise? I have something from earthbound..

For anyone thats ever played it, its the sound titled "spooky.." on the sound track, it plays when you talk to the Zombie in Threed blocking the path over the cemetary. It only happens once or twice in the game and i love it lol

I've got Casino Night Zone from Sonic 2 and Go K.K. Rider! from Animal Crossing. Thanks again, Bill, if you're reading this, for giving me the Sonic 2 OST, the ringtone wouldn't have been nearly as cool with the vgmusic.com soundalike version.

There might be some tricks you can use depending on the model of your phone and what kind of memory cards it can use (micro SD??). So, post the model of your phone.

Unrelated: I used this as my ringtone for the year I was in Japan thanks to the sweet Namco Tekken 5 celphone site/service:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFIgEwNF6Qw

Also, lol if you're asking for help on where to download video game music. Try a popular torrent site!

There are a lot of snazzy and very cheap micro sd card reader/writer devices that'll hook up to USB. I'm guessing like, radio shack and five dollars. So unless your phone is a weird one that won't play a sound off the card, this process should let you use any video game sound/song as a ringer:

1) buy a microsd reader/writer
2) download a song off the internet or snag it from emulation or what have you
3) copy the sound to your micro sd
4) put it in your phone and select the song as your ringer  8)

If your phone can do MIDI, there's a huge collection at vgmusic.com. You can find some good remixes at www.ocremix.org. Also, you might be able to torrent the soundtracks to more popular games off of a major torrent site.

I don't use videogame ringtones, but for those who do, Dragon Roost Island from Wind Waker has potential.

I have Tomo-chan's ringtone from Azumanga Daioh.  It's simply a midi file, kinda rare, but definitely exists.  Been using it for 4 years now.

My current ringtone, I quite enjoy it.

I've been using this one too for awhile.  I also have the matching text message and voicemail tones as well.
I'm such a geek....

Also, Verizon is stupid when it comes to personal ringtones. (at least my phone is... LG buncha numbers/is shiny)  I can't just transfer it to my micro sd card and save it as a ringtone NOOO that would just be too convenient.  They make me save it to my sd card, attach it to a text message, and send it to myself.

Is it just my phone or is that Verizon in general?
