Square RPGs Launching on Virtual Console in Japan
« on: September 05, 2008, 09:14:07 AM »
A recent posting on the Japanese Virtual Console website reveals that Seiken Densetsu 2, known in English as Secret of Mana, is making its way to the service.

 A new posting on the Virtual Console website in Japan reveals that Square-Enix is starting to show increased support of the service, at least in Japan. A listing for Seiken Densetsu 2, also known as Secret of Mana in the West, is going to be their first major RPG release on the service later this month. The title is one of Square's highly regarded SNES RPGs and is known for its unique style, including the pictorial, ring-style menu.

With Super Mario RPG now available in all regions as a collaboration between Nintendo and Square-Enix, it is clear that the company's support is slowly ramping up. Though nothing is known of a U.S. release at this point, it seems likely, considering that the game was released in English.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Naaahhh, Konami will buy Square Enix after they buy Tecmo after it merged with Koei and the Terranigma property will be lost forever.

I think that would actually increase the chances of it coming to VC...

I know you're joking, but Square Enix is much, much larger than Konami.  They're like the EA of Japan.

Don't get too excited. You won't see big name titles till they work out that all-too-crucial perfect length of time that allows for the maximum amount of profit from VC sales without hurting the potential profits of the DS port x months ago.

I would love to see Seiken Densetsu 3 with online play come to VC but I know that would never ever happen. :(

That maybe true but Konami still has people addicted to beatmania even after 20 - 30 different iterations.

But Square-enix also released a couple of awesome PSone classics on PSN specifically Einhander and I think Chrono Cross in Japan. I really hope that square picks up VC and PSN support in America.

Jeremy Parish already covered this.  ;D

Secret of Mana is coming to Virtual Console? But I thought Square Enix only put games and series on VC if they didn't see any future in th-- oh. Oh.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

This proves that Square Enix is going to be SO nice and release the VC version of Chrono Trigger for 800 wii points the same day the $40 DS game comes out!  Because, ya know, they care about saving us money first and foremost!

Heh, I crack myself up.
