Nobody would have noticed if Sony hadn't done anything about it.  They made it a big deal when the shouldn't have, and as a result, a million dvd cases and discs are going to be stuck in a landfill.  STUPID.

And they were blasted by certain religious groups regardless.

Yes, but they were only blasted figuratively.

How can you say nobody would have noticed when somebody already did?  Sony absolutely did the right thing here.  Even the hint of slandering the Muslim faith isn't something that companies need to be touching with a ten-foot pole.  It's just too hot a topic these days.

I won't argue that no one would have noticed, but I will argue that it is stupid. This is why we have the ability to patch games now. Sony could've dropped a patch out there for everyone and anyone who complained, Sony could've showed how they made the effort to fix the situation.

They could've also issued a recall for anyone who didn't have internet and was grossly offended by the content. So in conclusion,

They made it a big deal when the shouldn't have, and as a result, a million dvd cases and discs are going to be stuck in a landfill.  STUPID.

What I'm trying to say is that, to placate the particular offended parties in this case, nothing short of a full recall would do.

Fair enough, a sad reality though.

I was exaggerating with the no one would notice thing... but this is what would have happened.  The game would have come out.  A couple people would have complained.  If it got big enough that it became a stink, the respected Islamic organizations (http://kotaku.com/5066218/islamic-group-weighs-in-on-lbp-recall) would issue a well written piece about censorship and it would have been over.

Hell, absolute WORST CASE SCENARIO you just issue a patch and apologize.  They didn't have to trash all those copies.

I would just freaking LOVE IT if Green Peace attacked Sony for the waste.  They should be forced to prove how they are recycling as many of the discs and cases as physically possible.  All parties involved in this situation deserve even more bad press.... well, except for Media Molecule.

Pale, it's no different than the recall that Nintendo did with the NES in Japan back in the day.  I wonder what happened to all of those systems?  They're probably in a Tokyo landfill right now.

That is a good thing though. When the world collapses and technology is wiped out people will be able to start anew with those buried NESs and the chips inside the ET cartridges.

I got a call today from my local EB telling me they had my copy, so its beyond a supposition for me. Hope you guys can get your copies tomorrow.

Edit: Got it, and it's quite enjoyable. Now when are they going to allow us to retrieve the pre-order goodies because I sure want my Kratos and cosmonaut sackboy costumes.

Meh, I'm with Pale.  It's not a big deal.  You can't have freedom of religion without freedom of speech and freedom of press.  The few offended would be a minority.  Sony should have released a patch and been done with it, not recalled a million copies.

I moved this over to my Christmas list, so I'll get it in a couple of months.  I cancelled my pre-order because I have waaaaay too many games already in the queue.
