KDR makes a good point about E3, not only that it is quite clear the last couple of E3s has been centered around mainstream media coverage. Nintendo has changed this particular event into an avenue to get a hold of the mainstream crowd, and it has WORKED. Now will that continue with this particular conference? Not sure, but that does not negate the fact that Nintendo sees E3 now as their main media valve for the casual gaming community.
It should NOT be indictative of their development mindset beyond that they are focusing resources on making casual games. Nintendo is HUGE and it is quite obvious they have other stuff brewing, just because it wasn't shown at their "casual gamer" event doesn't mean they don't care about it.
It is amazing how soon people forget, don't you recall oh, let's say later last year and early this year we received 4 HUGE franchises? Is it that earth shattering that this year may not be chalk full of tons of Nintendo traditional titles? Now if next year they don't have anything planned to come out then I'd be worried, but right now it makes freaken sense. Or would you rather them throw garbage games out onto the market to satisfy the so called hardcore fans? Games take time to develop even with a company as big as Nintendo.
How about for this season you enjoy some of the promising 3rd party titles? Now will all of them turn out to be great? Nah, but there should be at least a couple of gems in there. I know I'm looking forward to Deadly Creatures, SPRay, and even Clone Wars if it turns out fine. Not only that but we have deBlob, along with some multiplatform games that may actually have features in them that makes buying a particular version tough like Force Unleashed, Madden, Tiger Woods, and Call of Duty.
This is the first year where we are actually getting a few promising 3rd party games and yet people are still whining because Nintendo doesn't have anything huge for the traditional gamesr? This holiday season actually has an opening for 3rd party games to shine, so shouldn't that be a good thing if they are quality titles? We, as gamers, have a chance to push for third party support this holiday season, isn't that exciting in itself?
Are we really that snooty that having 4 of Nintendo's biggest franchises within a year and a half isn't good enough, but is in fact so horrific we are crying? I remember back in the N64 days when we were lucky to get 2 great games a year from Nintendo. Have we grown so spoiled now that we forget that?
