"many Jill sandwiches"

Jill's dead.  Those sandwiches are expired.

RE is dead.  There's very little in that franchise to wait for.  gotta bring back Becca, Billy, and BARRY (the 3 B's!) on Wii!

Zombie Mall Bump!

On my spree of 360 demo downloads I checked this one out too. I liked it more than I thought I would. The combat is clunky and Frank walks like a club footed hunchback, but finding new weapons is fun. I may get this for the Wii, but probably at a discount

- Graphics are serviceable, I expect more muddy textures in the Wii version.
- Inventory system is a little clunky
- The dialog is horrible
- The mission system seemed confusing.

I am leaning towards getting the Wii version as well. I think it will be a solid spin off from the series that can stand on its own.

ShyGuy, youz demoed the 360 version? People are mostly worried about the Wii version being "dumbed down" from there.

The demo didn't exactly seem like brain surgery. I wonder how much it could be dumbed down.

It looks like you can level up the character which is a nice touch.

The combat, which is the main focus of the game, just isn't that good. They need to play some Dynasty Warriors to learn how to make a "combat vs. 100s of enemies" game.

Still I went back and played it three times. If I had to judge by demos, I would rate it higher than RE5.

Unless I am mistaken these things will be solved in the Wii version.

The producer said in an interview that the mission structure would be fixed and updated on the Wii version.

The new emphasis on weapons could solve this problem.

And the dialogue isn't that bad, IMHO. It gets cheesy, sure, but never horrible.

Oh god no.  Yes, they can have 3 attacks and only do that over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.  Then special attack.  then repeat.

Some new info courtesy of Destructoid:

The game has ZOMBIE PARROTS THAT DROP GRENADES ON YOUR HEAD

There is also a New Game + mode, 20 odd sniper missions, 20 Quest modes, and everything is graded. You can't get all the good stuff without getting the good grades. The game reportedly takes about 10 hours to beat on the first go through on normal difficulty.

Also, from the sounds of it, the opening sequence where you take photos of zombie attacks in the city was take out. I've always know that photography was taken out of the game, but I was hoping that they'd leave it in that one sequence, because that was probably my favorite part of the original .

Terribly written review, I still don't know what the zombie AI is like, or how many zombies they did manage to fit on the screen. All it stated was that the 360 version is better visually.

Yeah the reviewer left out a lot of details for us to know in order to judge whether to get the game or not.
I was already on the side of not getting the game for Wii, and I'm just waiting to see more low score reviews for this game for such a well done port. The truth is not all ports are well done.

"Mowing down (small) hordes of zombies" is how many zombies they've managed to fit on screen lol.

I still have trouble believing they couldn't get more zombies on the screen, it isn't like the "next generation" systems like 360 were the first to have tons of enemies on screen.

Ironic considering he dings the game greatly for the bad dialogue. He didn't cover several of my concerns regarding the game. I'm still in the same on-the-fence position about it. I might rent it first.

Destructoid's resident Wii fanboy Jonathan Holmes' first hour impressions

Quote
Technically, I've played the game for 56 minutes. In that time, I've killed 169 zombies, but have shot/stabbed/punched many more that that, but then had to run away before I could finish the kill(s) because I was totally surrounded.

I'm playing the game on Hard, and I haven't died yet, but have come close many times. Brad died on me once (right after the Carlos fight) which forced me to restart, but I re-spawned right from the point before Brad died, so it was no big deal (maybe set me back five minutes or so).

Quote
While playing, I rarely thought to myself "Wow, so this is what Dead Rising is like on the Wii..." because everything feels so different. Instead, I kept thinking "I wonder if this is what a remake of Resident Evil 2 would be like on the Wii?" So far, that's what this game resembles more than anything else. It's like RE2 in mall with RE4's control scheme.

For $40, that aint bad.

He also has a huge bullet point list of his general impressions that are quite interesting how Capcom changed it. Difficulty wise he said it's on par with RE4 Wii.

I am reading IGN's review. What surprised me is how hard they slammed the story. I understand it isn't the best ever, but it isn't THAT bad. If you followed the missions alongside the main story quests its quite compelling.

I remember when this game came out me, Smash_Brother and another friend stayed up till nearly 4:00 AM playing just to see what would happen next. The next day, when we were going to head out to play bowling nearly 6 to 7 of us refused to go till we saw the credits roll because we really wanted to see the ending.

So again, I don't understand what is IGN expecting from the game story wise.

Going back to the IGN review I was surprised. They rated it a 6.9, edging between "passable" and "decent". The only thing they slam are the game's story and graphics (funny enough, they rated the presentation slower than the graphics due to the storyline...). They liked everything else, including the new mission structure and save slots.

Also, on the review page they have a funny flash ad for the game. It asked gamers if they were sick to death of music, sports and cooking games on the Wii and offered Dead Rising as an alternative. What's ironic is that DR represents a trend gamers are "sick to death" of; ports.

Tried this yesterday.

Terrible and frequent (or terribly frequent) load times..........

Plays like Resident Evil 4 which is fine.... except this isn't Resident Evil. It's Dead Rising and it doesn't play like Dead Rising. Even if this was a brand new game and not a remake, that would still seem odd to me. Resident Evil is Resident Evil. Dead Rising is Dead Rising. They are two different series for a reason.

Still, the load times are mainly what killed it for me and why I'd never be able to rightly buy this game. I don't recall Resident Evil 4 having many load times, if any, and that was made specifically for last generation hardware so I'm curious why this game has so many.

I thought talk of D.og R.ectums wasn't allowed here.

It loads frequently because the Mall is too large and too dense (together with zombies) to fit in Wii's memory all at once.  Each of RE4's rooms were neatly designed to fit the structures and the controlled number of enemies onto GameCube's memory.  Whenever you crossed a loading zone, you received a black-out pause before the game loaded a new self-contained area.  And let's face it, D.og R.ectum wasn't programmed by Production Studio 4.

See, I don't buy that. In the beginning of the game, going from one small room to another small room was interrupted by a loading screen. On top of that, Wii is still better hardware. I blame poor/lazy programming. It's not like Chop Till You Drop is taxing the hardware.
