Get ready to shake down this September with Wario as he fights pirates in this hand-drawn 2D platformer for Wii.

Wario Land: Shake It!, set to come out on September 22, is an upcoming 2D platformer for Wii. Featuring the antithesis to Mario in the spiritual successor to the popular Wario Land series, the game has hand-drawn graphics and contains animated cut scenes. The main draw of the game is in the new way that Wario attacks enemies. Using the Wii Remote on its side, the player can shake the remote and watch as Wario shakes down his enemies, frees coins from treasure bags, and, if the timing is right, induces an earthquake. Shaking the remote also stuns an enemy which then allows Wario to pick them up and toss them by tilting the Wii Remote in the direction that you choose.

The story begins simply enough when Wario gets a globe and a telescope that just so happen to be the gateway to the Shake Dimension. Once a peaceful place, it has been ravaged by the villainous Shake King, a despotic pirate. Wario forms a tenuous alliance with his rival, Captain Syrup, and attempts to rescue Queen Merelda and the natives of the Shake Dimension, the Merfles. Spanning five continents, Wario must bash and stomp his way to the Shake King so he can free Queen Merelda and the Merfles, and claim the Bottomless Coin Sack.

Promising to be masterfully crafted and full of secrets, the gameplay mainly consists of going through levels and then rescuing a captured Merfle at the end of the stage. After you save the Merfle, you must hightail it to the beginning of the level before time runs out. This repeats until Wario faces a boss and, after defeating the boss, he must buy a map from Captain Syrup and do it all over again on another one of the five continents.

Wario will also be able to pilot three different vehicles in the game, one of which is featured in the following footage below.  Wario Land: Shake It! shakes its way to stores on September 22, 2008.

That looks a lot like Yoshi's Island. See the part where Wario is throwing something, it's just like Yoshi with an egg. When he snowballs down a slope, the whole thing looks graphically like Yoshi's Island, plus that game had moments like that too. The submarine seems to work just like when Yoshi tranformed into a submarine.

The animation looked pretty weak, but I guess it was a stylistic choice. Interesting to see this and Mega Man 9 in the works for WiiWare.

Sorry, I meant this game and the upcoming WiiWare game, Mega Man 9. It's similar in its old-school presentation.

Not terribly similar, WLS uses modern technology to make 2d even prettier while MM9 restricts itself to the display capabilities of the NES.

By "old-school presentation" I think he simply means both games use sprites and are 2-D.  ;)
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!
