This Week's Virtual Console and WiiWare
« on: June 30, 2008, 07:52:17 AM »
America gets a new Nintendo WiiWare title and the second iteration of Fatal Fury on the Neo-Geo for the Virtual Console.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=16245

This week on the Wii Shop Channel, Nintendo brings another WiiWare title, Magnetica Twist, a port of the classic puzzler. The Neo-Geo has also received another entry with a sequel to the already released Fatal Fury. Additionally, more downloadable content has been made available for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, the WiiWare launch title from Square-Enix.

Magnetica Twist, known by many as Zuma, is an update to the classic puzzle game. For those unacquainted, Magnetica places the player in control of a marble launcher that can eliminate a line of marbles moving towards it in a circle track. The player must launch marbles into the track and match marbles of similar color to destroy them and prevent them from reaching the end of the track. Magnetica Twist allows players to pilot the launcher with their choice of Mii and control it by simply twisting the Wii Remote. Magnetica Twist is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB and is available now through the Wii Shop Channel for 1000 Wii Points.

Fatal Fury 2 is the second installment of the Fatal Fury fighting series originating on the Neo Geo. Fatal Fury 2 adds five new fighters to the original cast bringing the total roster to eight. The game still contains the two-plane system that allows players to shift their fighter back and forth between two depths on the screen in order to launch and dodge attacks. The opposing character can also forcibly move the player to a different plane through an attack. Along with these mechanics, this iteration has also incorporated stage based hazards as well as desperation attacks than can help fighters on the brink of losing come back for victory. Fatal Fury 2 is rated T for Teen by the ESRB and is available now through the Wii Shop Channel for 900 Wii Points.

WII-KLY UPDATE: ONE WIIWARE GAME AND ONE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAME ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL

June 30, 2008

You want fireworks? Look no further than the Wii™ Shop Channel, where vibrant bursts of classic gaming action and fresh WiiWare™ content will help fill your living room with a flurry of ooohs and ahhhs. Puzzle-game mavens can enjoy a wild new addition to the WiiWare library, while the Virtual Console™ brings a truly classic fighting game to the fore. For an added holiday-week blast, fans of the WiiWare hit FINAL FANTASY® CRYSTAL CHRONICLES®: My Life as a King™ can enhance the action with new Add-On Content.

Nintendo adds new and classic games to the Wii Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week's new games are:

WiiWare

 Magnetica™ Twist
(Nintendo, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone-Comic Mischief, 1,000 Wii Points): The classic puzzle game Magnetica is now available on WiiWare , putting its own unique "twist" on the puzzle-game experience. You're surrounded by marbles, marching slowly but surely down a track. Use a launcher (piloted by a Mii™ of your choice) to shoot marbles with matching colors and wipe them out before they reach the end of the track. Control couldn't be simpler, as all you need to do is twist the Wii Remote™ controller to aim and press the A button to shoot. And the game play remains as addictive and deep as you've come to expect in Nintendo's puzzle games, with five varied play modes, advanced mechanics such as the ability to lob marbles, and a never-ending supply of combos. This definitely isn't your typical game of marbles.

Virtual Console

 FATAL FURY 2
(NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen-Animated Blood, Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1992 by SNK, FATAL FURY 2 is the second installment in the renowned fighting-game series. In addition to Terry, Andy and Joe, who appeared in the original game, another five distinctive fighters gather from around the world to compete for the championship title. Also newly added are stage-specific hazards and the ability to perform desperation attacks when a character's strength is low. These particularly deadly techniques create the chance for a come-from-behind victory achieved with a single strike. Moreover, the innovative two-line battle, which proved popular in the previous version, also has been radically enhanced. Pressing the weak-attack and strong-attack buttons simultaneously enables players to move their fighters to another line themselves, or to launch an attack that pushes opponents back to another line. This game mechanic, unique to this title in the series, allows the player to take advantage of the depth of the screen and create even more exciting bouts. Can you prove yourself the king of fighters again?

Magnetica, awesome! ... not. Fatal Fury 2 is an alright addition, but again, nothing earth shattering. Since WiiWare the VC has looked kind of crappy. Hell even WiiWare is devoid of anything big. I hope Nintendo fixes this with a huge release the week of E3.

Isn't Strongbad supposed to come out in July?

Yeah, Telltale keep aiming at a July release for the first episode. Can't wait! Also... can't wait for that obscure Pirates game from Europe! And SPOGS! and MLE!

I just watched a video for Magnetica.  It looks to be a pretty fun flash game, but I would probably grow bored after ten minutes.  Definitely not worth $10.

It's a shmup BTW, you move your ship around and shoot stuff with your cannon (in case that part of the WiiWare video wasn't released for the US Nintendo Channel).

I've seen clones of Magnetica for less than 10 Euros at retail.

I've been thinking I might go back and pick up Kid Icarus... If only I wouldn't have to free up some space.

...come to think of it, I'm kinda glad the line up is so lackluster right now...
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

It came out in Europe and from impressions YOU CAN ONLY USE THE WIIMOTE so your hands will hurt after 10 minutes of play

If you could use the pointer to shoot in Magnetica I'd probably get it but the current setup is stupid. Hopefully the rumnors that PopCap may be getting into WiiWare mean that a Zuma on the service with pointer controls is possible.

Picked up Toki Tori last night.  A definite "must buy" for fans of Zack n Wikki.  Though the games are quite different, the core is very similar, somehow getting from Point A to Point B.

Agreed, the game is great, I am currently playing it for review since I just finished my Space Invaders Extreme Review (coming soon). Look for a review soon.

I've been playing Invaders non stop, you'd better be kind to it in the review!   ;)
