Server downtime
« on: June 01, 2008, 02:26:35 AM »
There was an electrical short and explosion in the data center that houses our DB server.  No one was injured and our server is safe.  The reports we're getting in from our provider is that we may be back up and running by mid-Sunday at the earliest, although this is a major outage affecting over 9,000 servers.  We will get you guys updates as soon as we have them.

Ouch :/ Good to hear nobody was injured or hurt.

I was about to come in here and start a thread titled "how mockingbirds kill servers" but i don't need to now.

I think I can say we're all just happy nobody was injured.  I hope we get back up soon, I have news to post in my quest to dominate the front page.

Is that why the forums are acting all screwy? The home page said the forums shouldn't be affected but I have been having problems all morning.

Today I noticed a few more sites affected by this downtime.  It makes me feel a bit better about it.  Proboards is affected, as is a site a friend of mine runs.

Actually, it was the ads.  Their server was having problems too... apparently there was a fire, but I'm not sure if it was the same one.

I knew it was something cuz the pages would run all slow and yeah the top and side of the page where the ads should have been was where the "Page cannot be loaded" message was stretching everything out. That would explain a lot.
