Death Jr. Root of Evil
« on: May 29, 2008, 03:33:15 PM »
Hm, read a review on gamespy this morning (4.5/5, supposedly very good and well adjusted for the Wii) and saw it in stores today. Am I just badly informed or did this game get zero advance warning? And does anyone care? It's apparently a port of the PSP game but with proper Wii controls.

I've been keeping an eye on it, but it hasn't made it into my budget. It's good to hear that it's cheaper and decent. It has CO-OP MULTIPLAYER. It's a platform-action title.

BUT YOU HAVE TO PUT SOME EFFORT INTO SELLING IT TO ME. God, just being third party isn't enough anymore, you know?

So ports of PS2 games aren't good enough anymore, now we've been downgraded to PSP ports. Or is it the other way around, PSP sales are so bad that now they have no choice but to put their PSP games on the Wii because ports to PS2 weren't enough?

The **** that was Medal of Honor Heroes 2 was a PSP port. The only thing worth a damn there was the online and the controls.

You mean like getting a review below 3/5? You seem to gobble those up. A game gets >4/5 and suddently you demand advertising?

I've retrenched. And a number score is NOT an argument to buy the game.

Seriously, I've been viewing videos and reading previews of this game for months. But nothing caught my attention. They're going to have to try harder because I have my budget scoped up till the end of October and I only have $78 that are unaccounted for. This game is competing with Gauntlet DS, Jake Hunter (DS), Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds + Clone Wars (PC), Civilization III (PC), Tecmo Bowl Kickoff (DS), movie tickets, and more for that remaining money.

Did they at least downgrade the graphics? You know us Wii gamers. The uglier the game looks the more likely we are to buy it.

Or is that just what crazy people and 3rd parties seem to think?

Kairon, did you see the gameplay videos at GoNintendo? I'm looking for a decent platformer (I miss the good ole days of platforming on the N64) and I'm waiting for someone I'm familiar with to pick this game up.

Is Heroes 2 really that bad? I have played it, but just the first level. I've been itching to pick it up once it goes under 49.95.

The gameplay videos didn't do much for me, it looks like a standard platformer with decent graphics, but nothing exciting. The platformer drought across all platforms makes it more enticing though.

The **** that was Medal of Honor Heroes 2 was a PSP port. The only thing worth a damn there was the online and the controls.

The online and controls in that game were phenomenal. I agree that the campaign sucked and I never played the lightgun style mode but the online is great fun and the controls are better than the controls in Metroid. But maybe it wouldn't be the best idea to listen to me on this subject, I bought and enjoyed Alien Syndrome and Heatseeker, both PSP ports.

To be fair, one is made by Sega, who can do no wrong, the other is just pure awesome. Too bad I can't afford either one.  :(

Remember if you get Heatseeker to use the contol setup that lets you use the nunchuk as a flight stick. I'd advise holding it in your right hand when you use it that way.

To be a little more on-topic, I'm not that interested in this game, but if it's a good 3D platformer I may have no choice but to check it out.

I saw it for a tenner so... instabuy! Man, that was a fast price decrease...

So far it feels decidedly average, another "platformer" that's mostly about shooting stuff and beating stuff. That your character is a little Grim Reaper doesn't really make a difference, the scythe behaves almost exactly like any other melee weapon in any game, most of the fighting is with guns anyway so it really feels like they could have replaced Death Jr. with any random "platform" character. I have a feeling the only reason they didn't make the third person shooter mode default was because they gave the character a scythe and wanted him to use it.
