Ok well I have a 2 Ghz Sempron, 1 Gb DDR RAM, with a 128 MB 9200 SE video card, basically before adding the video card I couldn't even run Halo which came out 3 years before my PC was made, and my set up meets or exceeds the recommended settings for that game, other than hardware Transform and Lighting, which I am not sure if  my current video card even supports as I cannot find any definitive documentation on it, even from the Ati website. (although I admit I did not look for very long cuz I gave up in despair)

Anyways I figured it should run Doom 3 as it was released a year before my PC was made and again the video card was the only thing holding me back, but according to the Doom 3 site, my exact card is not on the list of "officially supported cards" so I went seeking out side help. For this I ended up actually registering for several doom 3 forums and not one person could help me out. So I turn to the experts here who usually have an answer for me. I figure I should be able to run most DC era games at the very least.

Did you ever actually try the demo?  That really is the easiest way to test if a game will run on your computer.

not yet, I am still recovering from that virus attack I had the other day, I am not ready to just run out and download a demo of a video game till I make sure this new software works. But I plan on getting around to it.

If your looking for deatchmatch FPS, I recommend Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and UrbanTerror. Both should run fine on your card and both are free.

Urban Terror's cartoony-ish look reminds me of Shogo.  Speaking of which, Shogo is awesome.  Buy Shogo, rat, it's old; it'll run on your computer.

No, I play alone no online for me.

Has nobody been paying attention to how broke I am? I sold my DS to buy an HDD and pay a bill. Otherwise I would have a brand spanking new Alien Ware gaming rig.

An old FPS by Monolith that alternates between mecha and on-foot missions.

If you want a good FPS to play single player I'd recommend Marathon. Made by Bungie, best known of course for Halo (by most, there are some that still swear by their RTS series, Myth), before they abandoned the Mac, you'll notice that there are similarities but there are differences too. The trilogy was released as freeware by Bungie but you'd probably want to check out Marathon Resurrection, a remake of the game in the Unreal Tournament engine

God why does everyone think all I want is to play FPses? I liek Doom and Quake, that is all, I didn't get them on GC, or Wii cuz you know that happened, so I fiured I play them on my PC. I am not looking for clones I am looking to play the only FPS games I ever enjoyed. Sorry rant over.

WHat I meant to say is, if FPS games is all anyone can suggest, then maybe PC gaming isn't for me and this reminds me why I shy away from the platform in the first place. Are there any NON FPS games that I might enjoy that would run reasonable well on a system like this? I already know I like Quake, I already know I like Doom, but those are the exception not the rule.

Before upgrading, like a log time ago when I only had windows 98 and a system with 64MB RAM, I played a lot of games, then it was cuz I didn't have a 64 or a Playstation and got bored with my SNES and my Genesis was getting tired from where. So I played Duke Nukem (not the 3D it was ok but not for me) Mechwarrior 2 (really loved but it didn't run that good) Puzzle Bobble )my all time favorite game) and then I started buying these Windows compilation CD's that would come with random games, mostly card and puzzle games but occasionally a nice shmup here and there.

Since i have established Quake 4 is not likely to run, I am going to check out Quake 3 and hope for the best with Doom 3. Other than that I am mostly looking for games that I can sit down and play any old time.

Someone once suggested Civ, maybe I will look into that.

The thread was about Quake 4 and so I assumed that's what you wanted. If you want something besides a FPS I'd recommend Escape Velocity Nova. It will certainly run on your computer and it is very much not a FPS. It's kind of a sandbox game in that it's very open-ended and there's lots to do. You have a space ship and you fly around a pretty large galaxy doing missions. There are I believe 6 main storylines you can choose from (whatever you do, don't go in with the Vell-os), or you can be an independent trader and maybe dabble in a little piracy. The game has (or at least had) a very active mod community, and there are hundreds of plugins available and several total conversions that change almost everything about the game.

I will not rest until Ambrosia develops an Escape Velocity game for the DS.

Well so far based on other threads I have seen, you and I tend to like the same kinds of games, so I might have to check this out. I was going to make a comment about that being the game in your sig, but I decided to quote the sig and forgot what I was going to ask.

Quake 3 isn't a single-player game like Q and Q2 were.  Also, id's gonna be releasing it as a free browser-based game one of these days anyway.

I had finished it a few days after release. It was definitely more entertaining than DooM 3, but didn't show near the visual polish. They should have went a little farther with the squad mechanics, pitting you against the Tactile Transfers more often, as they forced you to go for cover now and then. I think the only truly great game to come out of the DooM 3 engine was Prey, and even it didn't quite utilize its mechanics to their full potential.

I think I'm the only person in the world who really liked Doom 3.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!
