   1.  Wii - 24.45 million
   2. Xbox 360 - 19 million
   3. PlayStation 3 - 12.85 million


It's much more tighter than last gen but it's still amazing how fast the 360 and PS3 got whooped by the Wii. And its surprising that the Wii to PS3 ratio is practically 2:1.

Update: Microsoft has confirmed to Shacknews that it did not take the Wii into account when it claimed the Xbox 360 as worldwide console leader.

"Xbox 360 has the largest global install base of any current gen. high definition gaming console, Wii excluded," the company clarified to Shacknews when asked how Xbox 360 could lead worldwide with 19 million when the Wii has sold 24.45 million worldwide. "

I think the better-than-PS2 performance of the Wii, despite the better than XBox and GC performance of the other 2 systems, are proof of Nintendo's ability to expand the market. I wonder when the Wii worldwide install base will surpass the combined install of the other 2 consoles... by the end of 2009?

No, I understand that people have their preferences, but I don't understand HATING Sony or the PS3.  I loved the GC the most last gen, and got the most enjoyment out of it from all the systems, but I still liked all three.  This gen I'm probably leaning more towards 360 and PS3, but I don't HATE the Wii.  I'm still having lots of fun with it as well.

It is not meant to be faboyish at all, on the contrary I am a HUGE Sony fan, everything, non-video game related I own is Sony pretty much. I HATE Playstation, for too many reasons to list, and since they are MY views even saying WHY I hate it would only upset those whose views differ from my own. But I want nothing more than for SONY to exit the VIDEO GAME market. Not go out of business just STOP KILLING GAMING.

With that said, I DO think the PS3 is a nice piece of hardware, and if it didn't say Playstation on it and if Playstation wasn't ruining video games, IN MY MIND, I would totally pick one up. Aside from that, PS2, the reason there even *is* a PS3, sucked IN MY OPINION and had NOTHING to offer *me*.


It is pure subjective I make no fanboyish claims like GC was more powerful or Xbox had better games or PS2 was for sheep who can't think for themselves (a statement closer reserved for the Wii audience but I don't wanna open that can of worms)

I have nothing against Sony as a company, nor do I particularly mind their hardware that much or even at all, but I will NEVER own another Playstation brand product as long as I live, despite the handful of games I like, it is my choice to chose not to spend the money, which I don't have but even if I did would not spend, to play a handful of games, at last count 2, that I can't get elsewhere.


Besides I *AM* a HUGE Sega Fanboy and SONY is more responsible for their demise downfall than anything else (their own ignorance aside 32X *was* a great idea so was Sega CD, both poorly executed and not marketed to their full potential among other problems) so my HATRED of all things PLAYSTATION is not anything to do with Nintendo, but Sega, and my longing for the days when I knew owning the latest SEGA hardware pretty much guaranteed I would not have to worry about weather or not my favorite SEGA games would come to my system of choice, cuz they were made by SEGA.


If those reasons are not satisfactory to YOU or anyone else PLEASE DON"T BOTHER trying to change my mind, because it won't work. I feel very passionately about this, which is why I was GLAD every single one of my Sony Fanboy friends all bought Xbox 360s instead, on top of the Wii dominance I had high hopes of SONY's PS3's demise. Sadly it is a pipe dream right next to SEGA making another game console again and up there with a REAL Duck Hunt sequel ever getting made.

Nintendo is technically another reason why Sega ran from the hardware market, Sega had crappy management, released too much hardware that failed after the genesis era and they couldn't keep up with competition(which included Nintendo and Sony) so they had to fold as simple as that.

You must be a big Sega fanboy if you don't think the Sega CD and 32X were bad ideas. Sega should have taken a cue from Nintendo and decided that a CD add-on wasn't worth it and added chips to cartridges instead of making the 32X. If nobody was burned by those products more people would have bought the Saturn, and if that had happened the Dreamcast would have been able to come out at the right time instead of being ahead of it's time and Sega would very likely still be in the hardware business.

Like I said, it would start an argument.


It is simple nostalgia plain and simple. When I was growing up where I lived, every single person I knew had a Sega, only 1 person had a SNES and he also had a Sega and, like us, played it more. Then the ONLY friend I had who didn't have a Sega ALSO didn't have a Super, he JUST had a NES and was content with that.


In the world I grew up in SEGA was king of the hill, Nintendo was also pretty good we loved them BOTH about equal, they both had similarities.



Then along comes PLAYSTATION and then things go to hell.


It is NOT fanboyism AGAINST Sony, I said that, it is fanboyism AGAINST PLAYSTATION, but I have LEGITAMATE reasons, weather anyone agrees or not. Like I said it is all SUBJECTIVE, I think MS is **** also but they are just **** all around not just their games division.


But I am not and WILL NOT turn this into an argument SO STOP trying to. I made a statement that affects ME, you DO NOT HAVE to share my hatred, NO ONE DOES, but I have the RIGHT to my own opinions and I will ALWAYS feel free to express those no matter how "trollish" or "fanboyish" they may come off.

Umm I'm not trying to attack you I'm just making a constructive argument and backing them up with facts. You do know everything moves on and times change so you can't really live in the past.

I agree with Rat that the playstation line sucks. Sony as a consumer electronics company wasn't really that bad, as they did make quality tvs and other products, but for some reason lately the quality of their stuff has greatly deteriorated, and the Sony brandname doesn't really mean what it used to in the 80s and early 90s.

So why does the Playstation line suck so much? Well, aside from it breaking down and needing to be fixed/replaced more often than any console ever should, there's also the matter of them not really innovating anything. The PS1 controller was a rip-off of the SNES controller layout, and then when the N64 controller came along they also ripped that off by tacking two thumbsticks to it and then just calling it a day, and that controller design has been that way ever since. The PS3's controller has also added tilt support and is wireless, but there's nothing really great or innovative about its design or button layout. I personally have issues with them stealing innovations from Nintendo, and I also loathe them for backstabbing Nintendo and releasing the PS1 in the first place, when they were supposed to be partners.

And what is the deal with them bundling it with Blu-ray? Sony doesn't really care about gaming, and they never did. To them the Playstation has just been about controlling the living room, and that's all they care about. This way of thinking really shows.
