Pikmin Lovefest
« on: March 18, 2008, 03:13:07 AM »
I just wanna say that I hope Pikmin 3 comes out this year with online coop and voice chat. This is a franchised that I just adored since it came out. I am personally looking forward to this game more than Mario Kart or any other game out their. Would love to see an achievement structure added to the game and flesh out some more game play mechanics without adding more variety of pikmin.

Any other pikmin lovers out there wanting a sequel? have any ideas for the sequel?
If you add any of my WiiC or any FC please PM me.

Pikmin is a great game, I think the Wii controls would add a lot. Online coop would be a plus as well.

I absolutely loved the first Pikmin game. I was enchanted by it all and played through it several, in hopes of getting all of the endings and beating my completion records.

Now when the second one came out...I couldn't get into it. I started it 3 times and nothing...Would just stop playing and forget about it.

I don't know why, either...

Yeah, I was sorta underwhelmed by the second game... first game was perfect though. God, the first pikmin game was perfect.

Good to know I am not the only one that felt this way.

I think the lack of urgency killed it for me. I remember being hooked on the first one because I was enthralled by the surroundings and the monsters, but knew I had a mission to complete. It made the game more challenging and fun to play.

In comparison, treasure hunting doesn't seem as fun as the survival mission.

That's why I am a tad worried about the third game. How are they going to top the first one if the second one kinda failed to do so?

Wow, personally I felt Pikmin 2 fixed everything wrong with Pikmin 1. Pikmin 2 didn't wave the 30 day time limit over your head, giving you free roam of the world. It added 2 new Pikmin classes that were challenging to acquire and added great strategy to defeating enemies. The only thing I felt they did wrong were the caverns. They sometimes got a little overwhelming and the landscape in the caverns was pretty bland in comparison to the ground level.

I agree with Mr. Jack. Most of Pikmin 2 was a huge step-up from the first, plus the added a bad-ass multiplayer mode. Playing multiplayer with another talented Pikmin player is one of the greatest experiences to be had on the GC.

Same here.  I should have bought it when it made the discount bins at $20.  Now it's "rare" and goes for over $50.  I don't want it that much.

Edit: I'm referring to Pikmin 2.

I don't know. If I was Famitsu, I would've given Pikmin 1 a 40/40. I'd gladly pay $50 for this game. (And it isn't even third-party! wow!)

Pikmin 2 was good, but I'm with pap64. There's nothing wrong about it per se... but the 30 day limitation was NOT a handicap to the game in any way. It was easy to complete the game at around 20 days the first time through, especially for actual gamers.

And I felt that the treasure hunting aspect didn't offer as much of a visceral reward as rebuilding the ship did. It was magic to get a new piece and see your ship flesh out more and get a new ability... getting mere money was very very underwhelming.

Ah, see that is the difference right there. For me, the reward was the experience, not rebuilding the ship. The reward didn't really have an effect on my play experience in either situation so, it didn't really matter to me either way.

I consider Pikmin 2 to be the best game on the Gamecube.

I liked how it didn't have the urgency of the first game.  I can understand why some people would like that but to me the time limit hurt my ability to explore and that's really what I wanted to do.  Nintendo gave us this world that just begged to be explored but I had to constantly rush and get everything done.

Pikmin 2 still requires you to finish what you set out to do by nightfall and personally I find that adds enough.  So I can make little goals for myself and try my hardest to meet them but without a "screw up and you can't beat the game" hanging over top.

My only problems with Pikmin 2 is that they went a little overboard with the caverns.  I liked them but I liked the overworld more.  I like killing a tough enemy and using it's body to create more Pikmin.  The caverns lack that.  They're more like a dungeon crawl.  They also didn't have that challenge mode to create so many Pikmin in Pikmin 2.  I loved that mode in Pikmin 1.  It created endless replay value for me.

I want a Pikmin 3 but I don't care about online play or anything like that.  I see Pikmin largely as a single player game.  Multiplayer options are nice but I don't want it to focus on it.  Hell part of the point of the game is that Olimar is alone on a planet of strange creatures.  If you have a bunch of online dudes running around then you're not alone anymore, are you?

The first two Pikmin games were amazing but neither of them were quite perfect so obviously there's room to grow.

Yeah, we're not seeing Pikmin for a while.

The first two were financial disasters, so they're not gonna work on a new one before, say, a new Zelda.

Though you're probably right this is so unfair.  The Gamecube PERIOD was a financial disaster.  It isn't fair for Pikmin to be judged based on that.  If Nintendo had their sh!t together and created a console people actually wanted to buy them who knows how Pikmin would have sold.

It's like NOA's dumb logic for Earthbound.  Well sh!t nobody bought the game back when nobody in North America bought ANY RPGs let alone ones that intentionally used a simple graphic style to reference the earlier game in the series that was never released in North America in the first place, so SURELY now, when SSB has made the series well known and RPGs sell well in North America and localizing Advance Wars and Fire Emblem paid off, it won't sell.

I'm in the minority that believes the original is the superior one.  Besides the urgency set forth by the 30 day time limit, I just didn't like the white and purple Pikmin all that much.  They added a needless layer of complication to the selection process.  Yeah, purple Pikmin are the bomb-diggity, but when they count for 10 regular Pikmin, there's not much benefit to them.  And the white ones were pretty much worthless except for the occasional puzzle or enemy character that could have just as easily been weak to electricity.

Don't get me wrong--I really enjoyed the second game.  But the first one was magical.  The #2 did everything bigger (and arguable better), but it didn't capture the same feelings.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I don't think it is fair to say that because Pikmin didn't sell well Nintendo will just dump the game.

Look at Battalion Wars 2, that game did poorly and they gave it a sequel because they wanted to give a good game a second chance.

Pikmin is a good game, and I think it will be great to see this game again on the Wii.

Personally, I might be the only one, but I think it would be fun to have the option of actually flicking the Pikmin at your enemies and objectives.  It the developers can figure a way to add more spice and variety to the game I think a Wii Pikmin will be great...specially with the casual market that Nintendo is capturing now, if they gave Pikmin a try it would be a huge success.

How can you see the purple pikmin's ability to carry and weigh as much as 10 normal pikmin as not a good thing? And the white ones, while not as useful as the others, were great in battles if you could get the enemy to eat them. What they should have done was give the white ones the ability to use bombs, like the yellow ones in the first game, in addition to their poison abilities. I can't believe so many people liked the 30 day deadline, most of the complaints I've heard about the first game were about that.

I agree that there was too much emphasis on the underground caverns in Pikmin 2, I hope the third game will do more with the aboveground environment, and have more variety in the underground. I don't think there need to be more types of pikmin, unless they come up with something great that I can't think of.
