Ironically, in two online matches we had Mew and the make a wish pokemon show up (two that triggered special messages when I exited online)

I've still yet to see manaphy.

Ok, here's a nitpick... the desire to take a snapshot of the endgame poses, especially some captured when playing classic mode.  Another is to be able to play forward in snowmo so that you can capture the right spot in a replay.

Major gripe:  The random character option sucks at picking a random character.

Last night while fighting SB (and maybe Shecky, I can't remember if he showed up by that point) my random character was Yoshi 3 TIMES IN A ROW.  Immediately after that, it gave me Pit TWICE IN A ROW.  What's the point in picking a random character if I get the same goddamn character over and over again?

More whining about randomness?  Sheesh, if you flip a coin ten times do you expect it to neatly alternate between heads and tails every single time?

No.  But if I flip a 32-sided coin three times I don't expect it to land on goddamn 6 every time.

What if you flipped it a billion times?  Would it be so absurd to think that six might come up thrice consectutively at least once?

That's irrelevant.  The event is random.  Your fifteen matches could have occured anywhere in that string of a billion events.

Look at it this way.  The probability of getting 6 when rolling a 32-sided die is 1/32.  The probability of getting a six doesn't change regardless of how often it comes up.  So the probability of getting three sixes in a row is 1/32 * 1/32 * 1/32.  The same is true for any other number, so any series of number is equally likely to happen.

Yeah, but they could've kept track of the last random character drawn and opted to randomly select a replacement character if the randomly chosen character was the same as last time.

They could have, and it would have worked great with people's poor intuition of randomness.  I was just arguing about the nature of truly random events.

That's my entire point!  The chances of me getting Yoshi three times in a row (if it were truly random) is 1/32,768.  Now, my chances of getting Yoshi three times in a row immediately followed by getting Pit twice in a row is 1/33,554,432.  I have better chances of winning the lotto.

But getting Yoshi thrice in a row followed by Pit twice is JUST AS LIKELY as any other "more random" series of characters.  That is to say, it's bound to happen sometime, and that sometime is completely unpredictable and may as well be during your fifteen matches as any other time.

Do you at least agree that one divided by thirty-three million is a very small number?

Yes.  Do you agree that among all the copies of Brawl and all the matches being played that a very large number of random numbers are being generated?

Yes.  But since we've already determined that my random numbers are independent of all other other random numbers, I don't see what that has to do with anything.

If you acknowledge that your numbers are independent then you have nothing to be arguing about.

My argument is that my numbers are independent of yours, not that they're independent of each other.

Hey, I'm pretty decent with Pit.  The problem is he doesn't have a decent finishing move.

With Yoshi I just wish I could turn off his egg roll, because I always do that move by mistake and wind up killing myself.

I have to say I played a lot of Random character at Carmi, Il and I kept getting Mario.  It seems to get into a rut.

Ok, so here's a thought why not just pick different characters yourself???  You obviously want a different one each time with no duplicates, that's your best method then.

It's funny because computers can't actually generate random numbers.
