So, About Dragon Quest Swords.  I got it yesterday and got to the 3rd chapter before going to bed.  I find the game rather fun, albeit not as difficult I had imagined (playability, not actual game difficulty).

I will get it at a much later time since I am broke at the moment.

The game looks like a lot of fun, although I am annoyed at how some reviewers are treating this game.

"This lacks the depth of the Dragon quest series"
"This is a very basic take on the Dragon quest RPG series"
"This isn't like the main DQ series...

Of course this is different from the main series, IT'S A SPIN OFF WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CONCEPT! Of course it will be different and feature a new set of game mechanics.

Did people really expect a deep RPG out of this?

I'm really on the fence for this one.
On one hand, I'm curious to play it but on the other, I don't wanna pay full price for it.
I guess I may wait and try to find a used copy for cheap.

Shallow game in a half-arsed RPG concept.  Thanks, Square!

While the above is yes true, I think the idea is far too shallow FOR THE PRICE.  It is a shallow RPG and to me for 50 dollars doesn't seem to be worth the price for the quantity of playtime.

I'll have this through Gamefly soon.

While I haven't played the game I think DQ Swords is one of those games that looks extremely simple in concept, but has hidden depth that is discovered as you play. Kinda like Wii Sports (laugh if you must, but it is a game that looks insanely simple but as you dive deep into it you find a lot of quirks that add to it).

But like I said, I haven't played the game, so impressions will be greatly appreciated.

The game isn't just about slashing enemies to kill them, some of them require more that just slashing them, as in hitting their attacks back at them, or even hitting some enemies back so they take out enemies you can't reach.

The game is on rails, only in town to you have full control of where you can walk, in the field you can go forward and backwards and very little bit you can look to your left or right.  By default the you will slash around the middle of the screen but you can select anywhere on the screen where you want to slash, which is what you will need to do to get the enemies out of the default line of attack.  You defend with your shield (B Button) and your shield does wear down and break up as you use it, but it's not a real quick thing, and you can buy/find item to fully replenish your shield.

Leveling up is easier/quicker than normal Dragon Quest games.

You can only change equipment in town, so if you find some new stuff in the field you might want to go back to town and change it, the only penalty is having to play the level again, which isn't a big thing because if you complete a level and come back it's like playing it again fir the first time, except the treasure chests don't replenish themselves like they did in Joker (at least I haven't found any that did)

I'm liking this game. My one issue with it is that the Wii controls are a bit too loose to get the slashing right regularly. Other than that, it's great.

I like the story so far and the characters (especially the father) and the gameplay, despite the control looseness, is pretty solid.

I don't see much difference between this and a normal DQ game, unless game length is the real kicker, but most DQ games force you to grind levels to artificially increase the play time so it's not like you'll spend that extra time interacting with characters or getting more story. You spend it grinding, which this game doesn't seem to force you to do.

I'm not even a fan of this type of genre and I'm getting into it. That alone should say something about the game.

Just ordered, I will tell you my opinion next week. Considering my purchase decision, I think it is a little bit expensive. However, it looks something fun to play and thus I am giving it a try.

I've played it for a few hours and I am quite happy with it. It is very enjoyable to slash your way through the enemies and the graphics are very pleasant to watch, both technically and artistic. I understand that some people don't like this game based in their preconceptions regarding the Dragon Quest series. However, this is my first Dragon Quest and I have no complaints.

Finally had the luxury of getting deeper into the game. It starts off way too slow for my liking... but now that I'm 5 hours in I'm addicted and it feels faster paced and I gotta earn money!

How does it compare to Dragon Blade, is it better, worse, different league?

It's not like dragon blade at all. It's like... a Ouendan RPG with monsters instead of music.

Let's pretend I never played, that game, and don't know what your comparing it to. But I know Dragon Blade isn't a true RPG, but it's all I got next to Zelda but that's even less of an RPG.
