What counts as a view?

I noticed that if I go into a topic, leave, then go back in, it only counts as one view.  So, does this mean we've actually had 1,000+ different people looking at topics here, as some threads have 1,000+ views?

Probably not.  My guess is either (a) the view counter doesn't update in real time or (b) it only counts a new view if someone has posted since your previous view.
