I'm the only one caring about this? ;_;

In any case, US version is apparently confirmed, as it's the new NP cover, with the subtitle "Dawn of the New World"

AZ, you're not the only one. I'm pretty excited for this game, as I loved ToS. I'm really happy to hear about the returning characters too

This is a must buy for me, ToS has a special part in my heart because it was nearly a perfect game for me, something that none of the other Tales of games I have played after have been able to capture.

I want to not buy this to send the following messages to Namco:

1. I'm tired of the same old angsty RPG tale of teenage woe seemingly written by 14 year olds for 14 year olds.
2. I don't like pseudo-realtime RPG battle systems that take the worst elements of real-time and turn-based systems and mix them together.

But Namco will likely interpret my lost sale as "Wii owners don't like RPGs" or will take it a step further and interpret it as "Wii owners don't like third party games that aren't crappy".  Why am I in this situation again where I'm afraid to not buy any third party game that is probably good in the eyes of most but just personally doesn't appeal to me?  I seem to recall that sort of thing being associated with failing consoles and not with market leading ones.

It's good for those that do like ToS though and it is a real "gamer game" from a third party for the Wii.  That's a great thing.  I hope it sells enough for my non-purchase to have no effect.

Don't worry Ian. I'll buy a copy.

"Sir, Knight of Ratatosk has only sold ten copies."

"Ten copies? How disappointing. If only it had sold eleven copies we would have been able to continue supporting the Wii. The only way I'd authorize continued Wii development now is if the one voice of reason in the Nintendo community - the one critic I truly respect - approved of Knight of Ratatosk. His praise would be enough to satisfy me. Tell me, what does Ian Sane think of the game?"

"He thinks it looks terrible."

"That's it! Move all Wii projects over to the PS3."

Cuz you're affiliated with a Nintendo site, so you're obviously a consumer not interested in 3rd party games.

Well thatwasn't quite what I meant.  Remember on the Cube how every time anything even remotely decent that was made by a third party came out that people here would consider buying it because they wanted it to sell well enough to attract third party support?  It's not like buying games you have no interest in but rather just being a little more flexible on games that you feel you COULD like.  I'd like this game to sell in such a way that anyone sitting on the fence or who just isn't interested can not buy the game and the sales will still be high enough that it doesn't matter.  I want us to not pay much attention to individual game sales anymore because we just know that most of the decent games, even if they're niche, will meet the publisher's sales expectations and thus future support is a given.

Wait, what? =(

The Tales battle system is the BEST and pretty much ONLY way to have the party system work in a non-turn-based RPG!

I lost my old copy of ToS.  So sad.  Anyhoo...

Glad to see confirmation of this being localized.  I don't know why but Symphonia charmed me and I'll definitely be picking this up.  My only concern is to see how the monster party system works out.

The funny thing is I agree with you.  It is the best and only way to do that.  The problem is I still think it sucks.  I'd argue that having a party system in a non-turn-based RPG is a flawed concept in general.

I would buy this, but i don't even have a Wii yet. Being a student sucks sometimes.

Ian take that back. The AI in TOS made a real time system work. The ability to change tactics with a push of the D-pad was inspired, along with the flexibility as to how your AIs were setup.

Wait, why am I arguing with Ian. It's like talking to a brick wall. >(

Tons of info from NP that I'm snagging from GAF:

- Planned as a spin-off, later decided to expand the scale and make it a direct story sequel
- Project started summer of 06, before Wii was known to be the "casual" system.
- Nintendo specifically asked them to gear the game for a hardcore audience
- Monster system implemented to make the game more enjoyable for casual audience without watering down the full Tales experience; catering to hardcore Tales fans first and foremost - no changes made after the "casual" perception of the Wii became apparent.
- Light use of the Wii remote, activating shortcuts without watering down the Tales experience: pointing at what you want to shoot with the Sorcerer's Ring; click and drag the world map and select destination with the pointer.
- Might be looking at adding more motion-control features to the NA release (no comment)
- Monster capturing system intended to be strategic (certain monsters are more useful in certain situations) and a collect-a-thon. Difficult to collect all monsters the first time through the game, though.
- Monsters recruitment is determined by the element of the battlefield compared to the element of the monster, and influenced by the monster from your party you use to sway them.
- Affection system present in the monster attraction aspect, no story changes as there were with the original game. Optional side quests available.
- Cooking system returns, but now the Wonder Chef teaches you recipies for monster food, which will change your monster parameters or aid their evolution.
- Whenever Emil and friends find a new spirit, Lloyd is there trying to stop them...
- Of the 8 surviving characters, all are playable at some point in the game - Zelos in, Kratos out (but he's the narrator of the intro). Emil and Marta are the only permanent human characters, the rest of the party of 4 is made up of monsters and guest appearances.
- About half of the locations and dungeons are rehashed from the original game (though quite a bit different due to changes in the world).
- 11 hours of voiced event scenes and character skits. Event scenes feature realistically proportioned characters, cinematic camera angles and motion-captured character animation. "Prospects looking good for fully voiced skits and perhaps even actual theme-song vocals in the game's North American version."

I'm kinda sad that none of the other party members stay permanently.  I'm still iffy about the monster system too.

Awww, I was hoping for team orders to be done by pointing the Wiimote. You could bind certain team members to the dpad directions and quickly point at monsters to tell your allies what to attack perhaps with the option to bind a separate action to using that on allies so you could order a character to heal another with one point and click.

making this topic because I have no idea what will happen to the old one, and because a "date" has been set for the ToS release!

It's being released in Japan this April, which makes a late 08/early 09 NA release very likely!

anyways, will try to keep this post updated with info and such.

EDIT: why the topic title change evan? :/

Trying to create uniformity amongst thread titles. It is important to make clear what we are discussing in each thread. Didn't want to just edit maliciously, only when the title of the game is not clear. Hope that's okay.

uniformity is boring, and not having unique titles takes away some personality and makes me depressed :(
