Nintendo announces the "Wii Raincheck" Program

To help assuage consumers' complaints that they can't find a Wii, Nintendo announced this morning that they will begin a 'Wii Raincheck' program. If you pay in full for a Wii before Christmas, you can get a raincheck that you'll be able to redeem for a Wii in January.

Fils-Aime said that the program will be run entirely through retailer GameStop, who he says has "many tens of thousands" of certificates.

The program, says Fils-Aime, is for people who want "something to put under the tree."


7 Million Wii's sold this Christmas....?
wii surpasses X360 in LTD b4 2007 YTD is over?
Wii on back order till June 2008...?

Its too bad they didn't do this deal @ TRU also.

Sorry. I meant US LTD, Wii was still behind by about 2 mill before Nov NPD came out.

If they sell 1 million and presell a ton more that could put them Waaaay past 360 in 2007 (aka 1 year bragging rights)

It could also mean less 360s and PS3s sold because parents won't have to substitute this way.  They just tell the kids to wait until January (or probably later if this works out well).

A piece of paper that says "claim your Wii in a month" still isn't a great gift, and will turn some people off.

I don't think that the Wii has surpassed the GC in japan according to Media-Create numbers, only in Famitsu estimates.
