Should we start one via Virtual Console Gifting?

It's just a thought i had, because lately i've been doing nicer things alot more often than normal. I helped a woman in my building load up a U-Haul truck she was trying to herself, i helped another woman (and elderly one) with groceries and just alot of other things like that.

I dont want to say its the "christmas spirit" or whatever, because honestly it doesnt even feel like its close to xmas around here and i dont stop to think "hmm maybe it'd be nice to help this person out" i just do it and realize later on that i did a good deed. So i was thinking about this gift feature and it'd be cool to give one of you guys a gift, since i'm already donating a bunch of clothes toys and even food already. Why not?

If anyone else is up to, let me know! My only rule is forum regulars only. Not that i dont want to give a random poster here a gift, it'll just be easier to know the person you're gifting to

I am in but my wii is in the shop right now and my wii friend code is invalid . . . so I could do this.

1.) Whoever gets me waits until I get my wii back, in the meantime I will send whoever I get their game on my roommates wii.  I am sure whoever gets me can be patient and trusted to wait until I get my new wii back.

Sounds good, so far nothing but good comments ('cept you Crimm, now you get NOTHING).

Now i just have to figure out a way to have you guys pick names..

heres my  idea, but im open to others so feel free to tell me what you think:

1. We compile a definitive list of everyone participating by a certain date and lock this thread

2. I'll assign a number to each person on the list and i'll let you PM (or IM or email or Wiimail) me with a number (say 1-30) and i'll tell you who you picked.*

3. We'll need to figure out a day when to "exchange" gifts. the 25th would be nice but its understandable some or most people will be with family and/or not have access to wii.

4. It would be helpful if participants include a "wishlist" in their sig. Its optional, and if you choose to please add more than one title to giveyour secret santa an option. Again, its optional, if theres really just one title you HAVE to have and choose to put that up go ahead, but just know you're taking the fun out of everything

*Or maybe an "outside party" would like to be in charge of  this aspect, someone not participating so that i could participate too.

Also know, this isnt meant to be a celebration of christmas, think of it as "toy day" or whatever it was in Animal Crossing. You dont have to be part of a certain faith to give a gift to your fellow forum members!

The only other "rule" i have, i suppose, is a limit of X amount of dollars. I mean, if you want to go crazy and buy a bunch of games more power too ya, but ya dont have to splurge.

I think everyone should list (a) what games they already have, (b) a few games/genres they'd be interested in, and (c) any games they absolutely do not want.

For the games they don't want, it shouldn't be because they're universally considered bad games (hopefully people won't buy each other Ecco Jr.) but for any number of other reasons.  For example, I don't want Super Metriod (because I already own it on SNES) and I don't want Super C (not because it's a bad game, but because I already have Contra III and I'm holding out for the original).

yeah thats a good point. i was going to say "well we dont need to know what game your friend has because the Gifting features tells you if that friend has a game or not"

so we still need a cut off date so we can start picking who gets who. I say give it till Friday, then we lock the thread up, sound good?

Spread the word too folks, the more people who want to buy games for one another the better

I think we should make a list of people with:

Forum Name:
Wii Friend Code: "so just in case one of us doesn't have it" (especially me since I will be using my roomies Wii)
Games they want:
Type of games they like:
Games they have:
Games they dont want:

Though I just realized none of you guys would have my roomies friend code, should I just post it?  How would that work?

You guys set up a definite system on how this is supposed to work and I will decide if I should join....

j/k I'm in.

But seriously, Crimm should run the Secret Santa Program.

Everyone should PM Crimm w/:
1) Wii Code
2) 3-5 games that they want (any price range)
3) Region
4) $$$ willing to spend* <optional>

after that is PM'd, Crimm will at random send someone's info to another participant who will be able to choose which game they think that person would like best based on the provided list and their own budget.

Well, I don't want to take anything away from Crimm but if you are looking for an outside party to conduct this affair, I'd be willing to manage it for you.

As moderator of this affair, I would establish the following rules:

1. The sign-up for this thread closes at Midnight Friday December 14, 2007 Pacific Time.

Best of all, we don't have to worry about locking this thread because you only have to check the time of the original post of a person to see if they make the cut-off time or not. This way, the thread is still open for people to talk in when the gifts are exchanged.

2. Eligibility for this swap will be determined by myself, Easycure (if he still wants to help in the control of this affair) and one more person if people think it is neccessary.

The reason for this is again to make sure that it is somebody most forumers recognize and would have an idea about their likes and dislikes. As well, it prevents people from just joining this forum to get a free game or create duplicate accounts. However, do not feel that you have to be a prolific forum member to join in. Just as long as you are a recognizable name on the forums, give it a shot. If someone's eligibility is challanged, then I or the triumvirate would rule on the issue. Although the purpose isn't to make this an elitist thing, it's can be very hard to know what to give "forumer435" when no one really knows anything about them.

3. For those who pass eligilibility, I would then require a pm from that person with the following information:

   Wii Friend Code
Games that you do not want
   Games that you have
   Some ideas for gifts
When you would be available to do the exchange
If there is a price range you wish to stay within (optional)

With this information, I can then figure out which day the swap will occur and if possible a certain time period. The giver will now have the correct friend code needed to send the gift. The giver will know what to avoid. Currently, I would not send the giver the ideas for gifts unless asked for by the giver because they are unsure about what the giftee would like. In that case, they can pm me for more information and I would send them the ideas for gifts. Finally, if a person does have a ton of games already, they may wish to specify what they do not have, if that makes things easier. Or a person may request they only want a game for a certain type of console. Then they would only send me information related to that console's catalogue. (I.E. Games they don't want for the Genesis, Games they already own for the Genesis.) If this is the case, then those who are sticking to a tight budget may be assigned to such a person if the console games fall in their price range.

4. At the end of sign-ups, I will then randomly distribute the names of everyone and assign who gives to who. I will then send people a pm with the information they need.

5. I hope Pale signs up.

This way one lucky person will recieve Kid Icarus.

Of course, if Crimm wants to take charge like you are all pushing him to do, that's fine. But, if you'd like me to run it, vote now. If the majority agree, I will began implemeting these rules later tomorrow. And if there are any questions or suggestions, just add them to thread.
Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.
