Yeah Toilet Princess does similar things with its cutscenes -- even though it's already in widescreen Nintendo sees fit to TAKE AWAY EVEN MORE of the viewable area but putting more black bars on the top and bottom of cutscenes.  7.9 material indeed.

Picked this up earlier today, and so far I like it. The story and characters seem to just be excuses to continue on solving puzzles, but I probably wouldn't be that interested in a kid pirate and a flying monkey anyway.
