What is ThePerm?
« on: September 19, 2007, 09:36:22 PM »
Ask ThePerm
Alot of comment has been placed on my ability to make great posts. Which I must admit myself has been lately lacking. This has two causes:
1) I am not as up-to-date with my game news as I was in circa 1999-2003
2) I havn't had a working computer in 8 months.

To compensate I have been watching a crapload of movies. So if you want anything insightful from me it is going to have to be on the subjects of:

80s Pop culture
60s B movies
The stopmotion work of Ray Harryhausen & Aardman productions 70s and 80s horror movies
Quenton Tarintino and Robert Rodriguez movies
Greek Mythos and Movies
Anime
Philosophy
Art and Art History
Ancient Civilizations
George Romero movies that are not Zombie movies
Eli Roths movies
Stanley Kubrik movies
Early Nintendo history
Metal Gear Solid 1-4
Resident Evil series
and of course Zelda

What do you think of the song "The Final Countdown" by Europe?

Why did Ouranos prevent his children from getting born? (the same reason Kronos swallowed his children)

Which movies similar to "A Clockwork Orange" would you recommend?

Is Pulp Fiction better than Reservoir Dogs?

Why isn't Capcom bringing Resident Evil 5 to Wii?

Why on earth do you play Metal Gear games?

What is is?

Do you like the phrase "Post hoc ergo propter hoc"?

Why is Mario called Mario?

Isn't "Raft of the Medusa" beautiful?

2D Mario > 3D Mario > 2D Zelda = 3D Zelda (this isn't a question)

yeah seriously, those were my exact thoughts.

questions for theperm:

1. what are some of your favorite bands from the 80s so, in case i dont have them in my collection already, i can add them to mine.

2. have you ever read george a. romeros original script for the Resident Evil movie? and , if so, What did you think of it? Was it as bad as capcom/sony pictures claimed it to be, should he of been fired?

ill start with the easiest question since im Wii typing. I have read George Romero's Resident evil script and it's pretty good in my opinion, it follows the games alot better than the actual movies do. Despite the movies not following the games, I'm looking forward to the upcoming movie. It has a post Apocalypse feel.

thats what i thought when i first read it, which was only pretty recently. i never knew he'd written a script for it and was pissed to find out he was canned because they thought it wasnt good..how? it followed the game pretty closely except for a few details, it was funny, had plenty of suspensful moments and a fiar share or action. much better than what came to be the actualy RE movie.

i never bothered with the second, nor will i for the third becuase the first was so bad

I demand a detailed history of King Kong.

Did you think 2001: A Space Odyssey was terrible, brilliant, or somewhere in between?

I watched about half of A Clockwork Orange, then stopped. Convince me to watch the whole thing.

What do I think of Marvel Zombies? I havn't gotten around to reading it. I read Kirkmans other Series The Walking Dead, on the other hand I have had plenty of chance to read Marvel zombies, my friend has the whole series, it just finished. I'm just apprehensive about intelligent zombies as they are in Marvel Zombies. On the other hand the creator is one of my favorite graphic novelists.

bands from the 80s
Soft Cell, Tears for Fears, White Snake, Poison...there are so many of them to name.  like New Wave and I like Glam and Hair  Rock, i like 80s music because all the use of electronic instruments. Lately I like a new band called Black Audio, their song Stiff Kittens sounds like an old 80s song.

Pulp Fiction is great, but man Reservoir Dogs is intense. I think i'v seen Pulp fiction like 20 times, but Reservoir Dogs only like 3. They're my favorite Tarantino movies. If they were played together it would almost be like they were one movie. In other news im pissedo f f that they're releasing the Grindhouse features separately. It5 makes no sense, because neither movie is that great unless paired together.

On Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 5 will probably not appear on the Wii, thats not to say Capcom won't be putting games on the worlds #1 sold system. Wii.

Similar to Clockwork Orange, its hard to say. It has alot going for it, 3 act movie, with a moral overarch. Last night I just watch Citizen Kane and that was pretty kickass. No violent rape scene though. for violent Rape scenes watch Las house on the Left, or The house at the edge of the Park. Just kidding don't watch them for that, watch them for their content and social commentary.

On Metal Gear, My brother won a playstation at graduation night in 1999, since then my friend let me borrow his scratched copy of Metal Gear Solid. I didnt like the game at first, but once i realized the point wasn't to go and kill everything it became a favorite, unfortunately disk 2 was scratched so i never got to finish it. A couple years later Twin Snakes came out and I got to finish it. Unfoprtunately my GCN copy of MGS is either missing or stolen. Which pisses me off to no end. As for other Metal Gear Games, I had a different roommate a couple of years ago who was obsessed with everything Konami, he even collected easter Island heads because of his Gradius obsession. He had MGS2 and when MGS 3 game out we got that. I have a friend with a Playstation 3, and you can be that when MGS4 comeso ut I will be over at his house every day.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc, hmm I seem to recall our professor for english 101 talking about post hoc fallacies all the time, but just because she talked about such thing and she is an educator doesnt mean that by being there in her presence that I absorbed her information.

Jumpan Mario Mario's previous allias resembled Mario Segalli which was Nintendo's new york land lord.

Why did Uranus hate his children so much, because they were impotant, and they conspired to castrate him.

the Raft of Medusa does indeed kick asses, it has been the inspiratin for soem of my artwork.

George A. Romero movies that don't involve zombies. I saw the Crazies that was pretty good. I still need to watch Monkey Shines, Bruiser, I want to see Season of the Withch and a few others. I like Creepshow and Tales from the Darkside, but those both involve Zombies. Pretty soon I will have seen all his film work. I'm wanting to get a better copy of Night of the Living Dead, I was at borders and saw a digitally remastered version that looked pretty good(i have the dollar store version) and it was filled with special features and an Interview with Duane Jones.

Ray Harryhausen did not make King Kong, although he was very inspired by it. He did however make Mighty Joe young whichis pretty muc a knockoff. I havn't seen the original kingh kong in over a decade. I have watched Peterr Jacksons version and i liked it.  Its also been ages since I saw the King Kong with Jeff Bridges, but man did the Universal ride kick ass(im not sure, but i heard they tore it down) ;(

What zombie movie has the most incredibly awesome action scene in your opinon?
"I am going away, but the State will always remain" - Louis XIV, on his deathbed.

Clockwork Orange is not a bad movie...in fact it is a great movie.  BUT it is one of the most painful and despressing movies to watch.  I will not put myself through that movie again.

I have a list of great movies that I won't put myself through again:

The Passion
Welcome to the Dollhouse
Clockwork Orange

those are the 3 on the top of my head.

As for Marvel Zombies...I understand your issue about smart Zombies and I haven't read it either.  I have read the Walking Dead or parts of it and that is fantastic, so is Invincible.  Both are fun reads.  I finished the other day 30 days of Night and that was a great read, but not as scary as people let on.  It could be if you let it get in your head though.

When people try to judge you, step on their face and keep walking.

They'll learn to STFU eventually.

Why does everyone think typing on the wii takes long? i do it all the time and i usually right my longer post on it because its much easier and comforting to browse the forum from bed, so i'm on it longer to post more.

as for the perms reply on 80s music, i'm saddened that you didn't post anything i don't already listen to but glad to know i'm not the only one really into 80s music. some of my french call me a homo for it, whatever.

i haven't seem Bruiser but i believe thats a film with some members of the Misfits in it (as well as some guys from ICP but they suck). I had no idea he directed that, now i really want to watch it. Speaking of george a romero and the Misfits, i believe he directed a music video for their song “Scream” not one of their best songs from that era of their career but pretty good and the video kicks so much ass! check it out on youtube, its like a mini zombie movie.

Do you like my avatar?

I made Septermber 'ThePerm' month. Does it please you?

Marvel Zombies can crawl in a hole with Stan Lee and stay there.

Tears For Fears' Pale Shelter is the most awesome song to come out of the 80s. Along with Def Leppard's Photograph.

Not at all. I'm not a fan of most covers. Its a decent cover, don't get me wrong. And I think of Gears of War everytime I hear that version (never saw Donny Darko).

The latest is 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World' as heard on that commercial for a town ran by children. And the cover of 'Shout' = ugh. But I'm not a fan of that song anywho.

The only artist who I think has done exceptionally well with covers is Trent Reznor. Too bad he's never done Tears For Fears. And if anyone is a fan of Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus, hunt down the Superstarved album by Gravity Kills. Hands down the best cover of that song anywhere.

well i doubt their trying to go back to doing hardcore punk music with Black Audio, from what i've heard its supposed to sound techo-ish and industrial. maybe the new sound will fit davey's new voice better, who knows? but since theperm says atleast one song sounds like its out of the 80s, i wanna atleast give it a shot.
