For example, I play all the major series, but I was never interested in Advance Wars or Fire Emblem.  At the same time, I never gave them a chance, so maybe I could like them.  But if I never make time for them, are my playing practices shameful in the eyes of other Nintendo fans?

Similarly, while I've played Pokémon Red/Silver/Ruby/FireRed/Diamond (and play in tandem with my brother who has the other version), I hope I'm not chastised among Pokémon fans for missing out on the enhanced Yellow/Crystal/Emerald, or not following the cartoon show anymore, missed a few of the later movies, or never having played Pokémon Channel.

I could never finish the F-Zero games, because I suck at racing.  The Story Mode in F-Zero GX (Chapter 7) is particularly irksome.  Is liking the series enough to be a fan?

And as a big Zelda fan, am I supposed to play every Zelda game, even when they're rereleased?  (Ie. I finished Ocarina Of Time twice on the N64 and also the Master Quest version on the Wind Waker Bonus Disc.  Am I supposed to play OoT again on the Bonus Disc, the Zelda Collectors Edition Disc, and on the VC?  Why can't Nintendo make saves for the same game compatible?)  And, also as a Zelda fan, does that mean I'm supposed to want to play the CD-i games, or should I be supporting the movement to disavow them?  Similarly, for whatever reason I never bought a Virtual Boy or an e-Reader.  Should I have?

I'm so confused.

No you don't fail, you just can't post on iterations of games where you haven't beat or had no interest in the previous ones.

Pretty much...

Hey, wait a second!  Why are you posting here, GP?  I've never seen any interest from you in any PREVIOUS "Do I fail as a Nintendo fan" threads!  Never mind the fact that I don't recall any in recent memory, but that is beside the point!

Nope. In fact, you can be a great Nintendo fan without even following many or all of the Nintendo franchises!

Hey BUSTER. It's because of me and about 90,000 other people who bought Ping Pals that you're getting Contra 4 for the DS!

Yeah, that's right. You should be on your knees, thanking me!

If that's what happened with a game that rated 0 in some places, just think of what will happen with a game rated higher! And actually decent games like Alien Syndrome, Cooking Mama, Sonic: And The Secret of the Rings and even Heatseeker!

Are you implying that Contra 4 will be bad?

I wonder how many people bought Ping Pals because it was super cheap (I remember EBGames having it for $1 new) or because it was so badly reviewed?

Ever since the Super NES, the majority of my games have been Nintendo's own...

For the record, I didn't play the Donkey Konga games...or the DK: King Of Swing games...or Mario Vs. DK 2: March Of The Minis...and I don't think I'll be looking particularly forward to Barrel Blast or whatever...

I would think a real Zelda fan would AVOID the CD-i games.  Such perversion of the series should not be rewarded with a playthrough.

As a Zelda fan I don't buy the re-releases because I don't consider "fan" and "tool" to be synonyms.  I own A Link to the Past legitimately for the SNES.  Provided I can still get that copy working I don't need another copy of it.

Fandom should not be unconditional loyalty.  You became a fan because you liked the games Nintendo was making.  That SHOULD be the reason any of us are fans today.  So if Nintendo releases a game that doesn't catch your interest or you outright dislike and you don't buy it that's okay.  It's okay to dislike some Nintendo games.  Hell the whole point of good videogame lineup is to provide a lot of variety because different people like different things and a good game lineup should be able to satisfy virtually everyone by providing enough options to cover different tastes.  For Nitnendo to remain innovative and relevent they should be offering variety.  Not everone should like all their games.  If every game is for everyone you're just the game equivalent of Garfield.

I don't like the Metroid series (aside from Pinball)! I also don't like Twilight Princess! Or OoT! Or Majora's Mask! Or Four Swords Adventure! Or Minish Cap! And Fire Emblem? LAUGHO! I'm a hardcore Nintendo fan.

I think you're a fan if you've played through the best, and at least know about the worst games from each past system, know a little history, are willing to camp out for a limited piece of software/hardware, and can tell someone in a game store what they should buy! Like a sports fan, a Nintendo fan wants Nintendo to profit and succeed so that more quality games can be made, and you also think that Nintendo games are usually better than others. That's a nice and simple definition.

Hey this sounds like a good HOT TOPIC question.

Talking about crap like "fan credentials" is just e-peen. Noone cares if you like or don't like a series made by a developer/publisher. What's the point of being able to say you liked and finished every game Nintendo made?

I played Advance Wars once and it didn't do anything for me.  I played one Pokemon game and didn't find much to interest me there, either.  There are a multitude of Nintendo games that I haven't played or that are just not for me, but the amount of their output that I love far outweighs the output from other companies and the Nintendo games that I don't play.  Thus, I am a Nintendo fan.

I consider myself a dedicated Nintendo follower (or fan if you will) but I don't like all their franchises.
I don't like:
- Advance Wars: I hate strategy games,
- Fire Emblem: I hate T-RPG.
I also suck (well kind of) at F-Zero when it gets further in the game, I'm not that good at racing games in general (heck I just bought Wave Race: Blue Storm and couldn't finish a race the first time! haha)

capamerica is the biggest Nintendo fan I know. He owns a lot of Nintendo games and is very loyal to the company (even when he is a multiplatform gamer) yet is not a big fan of the Mario franchise, Nintendo's main series.

If he can be a fan, so can you .

Wow, I'm just like Ghisy, except that I never bothered with Wave Race!

I guess that is kinda whiny in my first post.  I don't need to throw all my dollars at everything Nintendo puts out, that's true.  And it is interesting to note what games everyone here has or hasn't played.

What was that Nintendo (Super) Game Boy game that Nintendo developed that no one played?  Mole Mania?  LOL.

Ian's right, not everyone has to like every series.  But I'd like to be multi-genred, as I find that too many people seem to like JUST sports, or JUST RPGs, or JUST shooters.  Of course, it's probably skewed to buy only JUST Nintendo games, though I do seem to finish everyone else's games to toal completion within a rental period.  Or maybe I just like to take my time with Nintendo games, since obviously I'm a Nintendo fan/fanboy/devotee.  :P

Let's say, hypothetically speaking, someone has only beaten two Nintendo-made games: Super Mario 64, and Wind Waker. That person could still be considered a Nintendo fan, right?
