HD Noob needs help!!
« on: August 28, 2007, 12:22:06 PM »
Hey guys, as stated I am a noob when it comes to HDtv stuff. I just picked up Metroid Prime 3 and want to play it on my new HD Widescreen TV. The question is what do I need to start playing it in HD? I know of the component cables you can get for the wii, but other than that, is there anything else I actually need to get for my TV for it to work? And what's HDMI all about? Like i said....noob :P

I'd appreciate any help I can get! Thanks in advance!

In B4 Pro666.
Hook your Wii up with component cables, change the Wii settings to 480p and Widescreen and enjoy EDTV.

I don't think HDMI will be relevant at all in your case. So don't blow $50 on a bunch of wires you won't be using (for gaming with the Wii, at least).

All you need is the component cable... but Wii doesn't support HD. You'll just be seeing it in standard-def, widescreen/480p. Which is still nice.

Wii doesn't support HDMI cables, so don't sweat it.

But for any future devices you get, HDMI is a good alternative to the 5 connections that component cables use. But don't ever pay $50 for them. Get them for $5 at monoprice.com.

To make it completely correct, it will be a 480P signal upconverted to the native resolution of his tv, whether it's 720P, 768P, 1080i, or 1080P.  So he will see it in HD, just upcoverted by his tv's scaler.

One other tip. In the tv picture adjustments, take your sharpness and turn it down to zero.
