Guilty Gear Series officially killed off (aka: Guilty Gear 2)
« on: August 12, 2007, 08:54:34 PM »
Well this is just the biggest pile of sh!t I've seen.

So long to another fine fighting franchise.

Glad this garbage is coming out on a 360 so the Wii isn't the reason for the series changing to crap.

Perhaps this means that the 360 and PS3 will be getting crappy 3D spinoffs in the future while the Wii will get the real games?

Why do game companies think they need to totally change a game's systems to move it forward?

First Soul Calibur Legends now this...
WTF is going on with fighters?

Man it seems like all the fighting franchises decided to become 3D adventure brawl games ever since TeamNinja announced Dead or Alive Code: Cronus.

You have a strange frame of reference.

SC:Legends, MK:Shaolin Monks, Tekken:Whatever (I'm not sure about the standalones but I know Tekken 5 comes with a 3d brawler) and that DOAC:C (never heard about it) thing are all spinoffs. GG2 seems to be the main entry.

I'm more outraged by the switch to 3D.  Has any 2D fighter ever successfully been translated to 3D?

A reinvention of a series is usually accepted if it turns out good.  It's just that fighting game spinoffs have NEVER been good.

Well Guilty Gear is a really amazing 2D fighting game which if you haven't played and like fighting games I suggest you do.

And well since this 3D guilty gear is now the official "Second" game in the series it has turned into a 3D piece of crap non fighting game which is just plain silly.

There is no reason why Guilty Gear 2 had to be a 2D fighter, or a fighter at all. The Guilty Gear X series will probily continue the 2D fighting series. Guilty Gear 2 can be what ever Arc System Works wants it to be. Bitching that Guilty Gear is not following what it should be is like bitching about a game going from 2D to 3D. Come on people, you don't even know how its going to be. For all you know this could be the right step in the right direction.

Dead Or Alive: Code Chronos was announced back in 2002 for the Xbox and later moved to the Xbox360, It's going to be an Action RPG prequel to the Dead or Alive series and will focus around Ayane and Kasumi before the first game.

Yeah remember when they tried to add an adventure mode in Isuka? yeah that worked out AWESOME.

::rolls eyes::

I don't trust them (Arc System Works) to do a good job with this I just don't.

At least SC4 is coming. We can rest easy knowing that Legends is a spin-off instead of a sequel.

Anyway, what the f*ck happened to Guilty Gear? What's next, first person Smash Bros.?

The issue is that calling it GG2 raises certain expectations, namely that it's a new game based upon the original with big improvements, not a completely different gameplay style (Zelda 2 might have been received better had it been a new franchise). The bitching comes partially from the fact that turning a 2d fighter franchise into a 3d brawler hasn't worked out in the past and probably won't in the future. It also forgets that the fanbase is guaranteed to like fighters but not necessarily brawlers.

Giving it a main series number indicates that GG3,4,5, etc will be sequels to it instead of a game like GGXX. If GG3,4,5,... are similar departures from their predecessors that doesn't mean much other than that the devs better be versed in a LOT of gameplay styles but if they're like other sequels that may mean we won't see a GG fighter again.

They are ballooning all of the female characters for absolutely no reason, and the team seriously seems more interested in how the characters' clothes move on their bodies than the actual, you know, gameplay...Interest is declining... =|

I really don't think we have anything to worry about, I think its highly likely that the GG 2D fighting series will continue on, They will most likely just use the GGX/GGXX brand that they have created. Actually from what I've read the true GG2 was GGX and GGXX was considered the 3rd installment so in reality GG2 is in fact GG4.

Anyway I bet the 2D fighter of GG will continue on as the GGX series, I have a feeling well see Guilty Gear XXX be released within the next couple years.
