"My bet is: there is only one playable, normal, Link in the game."

So you want Wolf Link/Midna too, right?

Yep, why I added in the word "normal" just before hitting submit. Although personally I would rather see Midna be a standalone character.

I probably would too, but she actually has a pretty nice move-list if she's with Link, so I personally think the combo is more likely...

There will be no cel-shaded anyone in the game.

Little Mac is a must.  He makes too much sense to not include.

Oh I am willing to bet there will be a Wind Waker modeled Link.  Young Link in Melee was very cool.  But now there is a definite difference between Twilight Link in Wind Waker Link, in both Style and potentially moves.

And why the idea of NO cell shaded characters period.  That is silly, because Cell Shading is just a technique to use, and if it makes the characters look great then use it.

I'd be willing to bet Captain Olimar shows up. There were 2 Pikmin games on the Cube and the series has a big following amongst the hardcore. Seems to me he could control similarly to the Pokemon Trainer.

Also I feel like Miis could show up, seems like a logical move.

Woops wrong topic. But now that im here, umm... Has it been said that the 8 original smash bros would return? I don't ever remember reading that.
And it has been officialy stated that some of the previous characters wouldn't return right?

CaterKiller:  It has not been stated that the 8 original combatants will be playable yet.

Which is why they are not included in the official count, but I do not see them being taken out of the game as there is no reason to take any characters out except for the clones.

This is one reason I do not see them removing Ice Climbers or Mr. Game and Watch, because both characters are quite unique and truly add to the game.

I'm thinking Megaman might show up.

In Nintendo Power they've been showcasing various people who're working on SSBB, and they have a little showcase of games each person has been a part of. A last month the guy had worked on Devil World and Devil showed up as an assist trophy soon after. This month's guy had Megaman as one of his featured games, so here's hoping.

So Bill, Sukarai did say the original (12)  combatants would return? And some radio show where he said something about droping Game and Watch, does anyone know that to be true?

And no, Spak, it was from a Japanese interview long before the Dojo came into existence, so I can't find it...

Bill, that interview was the fake one where he also said Ice Climbers and Game and Watch would be removed.  The only information Sakurai gave before the site reopened in May was his comments he made to some of the Japanese fans letters in that poll they had last summer.  And none of the translations said anything about all the original 12 returning.

All Sakurai said about characters is that not all of the characters from Melee will be returning and that's it.  Now it's a safe bet so assume all of the original will be returning and I fully expect them all to return as well, but Sakurai has never confirmed it so until he shows them all, there's no 100% guarantee.
I’m gonna have you play every inch of this game! - Masahiro Sakurai

And a character that was assumed to be taken completely out of Smash returns in Ice Climbers.  I knew that rumor had to be false.

I would like to see a Gunstar Hero as a playable character. I remember when that site was open for suggestions I actually suggested it.

I wonder what that would play like?  Would Red/Blue be a quicker version of Samus, with special moves being dominated by projectiles?

It might actually be more interesting if he could summon a carrier-bot thing to drop in a weapon type with down-B, and all specials would be based on that particular weapon.  Remind me, there were four types in Gunstar Heroes, right?  Tracking, Rapid, Heavy, and Laser, or at least something like that?

Yeah, there were four types and they could be paired up in any manner. So that's 20 different weapon types.

Hmm, what do people think about this?

That's the icon selection screen... not much to speculate about, but...

-Nothing is blurred, so any "secrets" would either be above or below the visible icons
-They've scrolled down just a bit to hide at least the first row of icons (Mushroom, DK, and Triforce emblems are hidden, and there's no sign of the Animal Crossing, Mother, or Smash Bros emblems... those six would fill the first row...)
-The playable characters are all in a row, of which we can see both the beginning and the end.
-Both Samus and Zero Suit Samus have separate icons, as do all 3 of PT's Pokemon, but there's still no sign of Sheik.
-Judging by the position of the scroll bar, there may be several rows of icons below what we can see (although those could easily be all Miis).

Any thoughts? Not much to go on, but my interpretation is: all of the starter characters have been announced. Anyone not in that screenshot will be unlockable, or not in the game at all.

Yeah, uh, why would they show or blur out anything not revealed yet?

They've blurred stuff out before.  It's certainly possible that they'd cut out icons, but there's nothing to suggest that they've done so.

Well in that shot they've blurred out...the character screen...As if we didn't know there'd be one in the game... =3

It's a bit different when blurring out character icons, particularly if they decide to put a Sheik icon next to Zelda...

(Plus, you think they are done revealing starter characters?  I sincerely doubt it...)

Yeah, they still have Cpt. Falcon, Ness, Sheik, Snake and Ganondorf to announce, not to mention any newcomers yet to be revealed as well as the secret characters.
