I've seen people mention that, but at the same time, they also mention that the sword wielded by the hero in all FE games generally looks like the Falchion.

I suppose Lucas could be to Ness what Luigi was to Mario in the last 2 games since they have some of the same moves but they work differently. As Spak-Spang said, you could read Sakurai's comments in different ways. While I took it to mean that Ness was being replaced by Lucas, the sentence really doesn't say anything specifically. The "up until now" part could mean that Ness has been in every Smash Bros. including Brawl, but it could also mean that he's been in Smash Bros. before, just not anymore now that we have Lucas. I hope the next update is Ness.

I think Marth will still make it. From what's been shown of Ike, he's really nothing like Marth at all. It'd be a waste to just toss Marth's moveset away.

I don't know. I really want Ness to be in the game, but I'm having really strong doubts. The qualifier "up until now" implies more so that he won't be in the game. I know he's intentionally being ambiguous, especially since he takes the time to compare Lucas to Ness. However, he could have easily done that because people were already wondering how much the two compared.
I still hope though, and I'll hope strong.

DK was revealed before Diddy.
Fox was revealed before Krystal.
Kirby was revealed before Dedede.
Marth was...uh oh...

Ness, Captain Falcon, Luigi, and Jigglypuff all won't be revealed on the site unless it's JUST before release.

I know S_B asked this (don't know if it was on this thread) so here's my take on it: I expect Claus to be the second Mother character. Not only is he Lucas' brother he is also a major character in the Mother 3 storyline. He is also on both Sakurai's list and the Japanese poll so his chances are quite good.

Krystal wasn't revealed. We don't know if there will be a second StarFox character actually playable.

Not only that, but no character that has been unlockable has been revealed yet. No Luigi, Jigglypuff, Ness, or Cpt. Falcon. No Marth, Roy, Mewtwo, Pichu, Dr. Mario, Falco, Ganondorf, Young Link, or Mr. Game and Watch. Regardless of clone status, this is true. No character that has been necessary to unlock in any of the games has been unveiled. They may all be gone, we don't know. We won't know until the game is out.

She hasn't been OFFICIALLY revealed, but the fact that SSB Brawl was removed from her online resume is pretty suspicious. Nintendo wouldn't get up in arms about an assist trophy or a random adventure mode character. Plus, Krystal is one of the most requested characters. You are right in that we don't know for sure till they announce it but let's not dismiss it either.

It really just hit me that we're not going to get ALL the info about the game until it's out. So, I think I'll stop stressing about previously existing characters and start worrying more about potential 3rd parties.

I don't want to turn this into a megathread but I'd like to see Phoenix Wright and Derek Stiles so SSBB will officially have doctors and lawyers as playable.

I now have this image of a smashed up Mario lying on the ground while Stiles is taking his pulse and Wright is putting a card on his hand while saying "I saw the whole thing...".

And I expect something crappy to end the week. This week was very weak when compared to the updates.

Bah, f*ck this week's updates.

One stage which was playable at E4All and some limp-wristed crap like "items from previous smash games you've already seen in videos anyway". At least Fox's video was kinda neat...

It's 14 weeks until Brawl's US launch (and the Japanese launch will happen sooner).

Out of the original 25 SSBM characters, only 12 have been announced, meaning that Sakurai pretty much needs to announce a classic character once every week (assuming he doesn't announce Krystal and Ridley on two of these weeks) or start informing us which ones have been sh*t canned.

If clones are gone, only 8 more vets will return...7 if Ness really is gone...

Even then, it's entirely possible that vets like Luigi, Marth, and Ganondorf will be unlockable, thus decreasing their likelihood of being revealed on the dojo...(Dammit, we don't even know for positive if they've started revealing secret characters!)
