Wow this is a great update and finally something we can really talk about.  I love the fact you can blend effects to make your very own Special Brawl.

I know there are several I want to try:

1)Metal Bunny Brawl:  You will have the weight difference, but still have the speed.

2)Curried Metal Brawl:  You can take extra damage, and you will be doing extra damage with spicy hot combos.

3)Flowered Stamina Brawl:  Your Health slowly drains while you fight to the death.  This would be great with switching off all items but food.

4)Reflective Giant Brawl:  I am guessing projectiles bounce off, forcing hand to hand combat among Giants.

This will be  a great feature...and hopefully you will have this much customization online.

Don't count on it, as I see him only releasing characters every other week at this point.  Though this is all personal conjecture, so it may well be a character update.

I'm hoping that is not the only option screen for Brawls.  Because it doesn't really seem like that many options.  I mean what if I want a 30 minute Cracker Metal Bunny Coin Team Brawl*?

*Start Metal and Bunny. Last 30 Minutes.  Item Probability of the Cracker 99% or High.  Coin Mode and Team Mode.
Need a Personal NonCitizen-Magical-Elf-Boy-Child-Game-Abused-King-Kratos-Play-Thing Crimm Unmaker-of-Worlds-Hunter-Of-Boxes
so, I don't have to edit as Much.

Haven't we gone two weeks with no char update now?

We got Meta Knight last Wednesday...

Looking at our list, we have 17 characters (not counting Zero Suit Samus, as she's included with Samus...)  After tomorrow's update, we have 11 weeks of updates...So if we got a character tomorrow, and a character each week after, we'd end up with 29 starters...If we went every other week we'd end up with 23-24 starters...I'm thinking 25 starters is likely, but there's really no way to know for sure...

(Edit: Snake is also not included in this due to Sakurai stating that 3rd party characters will be unlockable...)

Don't you think we should have all the starters by the time the game comes out in Japan?  They get the same updates as us correct?

I think he was talking about a new challenger update or a veteran update.

Oh and the "Snake will be unlockable" logic doesn't make sense. Fans KNOW that he will be in the game. He was prominently featured in the two Brawl trailers, his profile was featured in the old Brawl website and he represents one of Brawl's biggest additions. I doubt they would keep his profile hidden till after the game was released. It wouldn't make sense.

Sakurai himself said this, not me...And running by how the Melee site worked, no unlockable characters were revealed on the site until after the game was released (even those that people knew were going to be in the game, like Luigi...)

Then tonight should be one. We've generally gotten at least one character per week (except that Peach and the Pokemans Trainer were in the same week).

The difference is that Luigi was NOT confirmed to be a returning character. Snake on the other hand has been confirmed to be in the game. It would be pointless to keep him a "surprise" when everyone knows he's in.

Also, the "unlockable" thing is pointless because for all we know Diddy, Pokemon Trainer and Ike could be unlockable characters.

Link? I ask because I DO remember him saying that Snake was going to be an unlockable character but I don't recall him saying that secret characters would not be featured on the website.

Again, this makes sense for the other unknown characters, but not for Snake. He's already been revealed. Like I said earlier  his profile was featured in the old website and if I'm not mistaken Snake's icon can be seen on the site (I was wrong, but the icon WAS revealed a while ago).

I know I'm being doubtful but the last time "Sakurai" said something it turned out to be fake.

I have to ask for a link on that one, too, Bill.

Last I heard, Sakurai said that all unlockable characters would be made known on the site, prior to the release of the game.

Also, I thought I remember hearing November 20-something for Japan, but I'm far from certain.

I also remember the bit about Snake having to be unlockable since he was a "guest" in the game, but I never heard anything that suggested that he and other 3rd party characters wouldn't be acknowledged.

If this is the case, I'd like to know because it'll give me another week to hope that some of the unlockable characters don't suck ass until Japan dumps a massive pile of screenshots of the full roster all over the internet.

One person emails Sakurai requesting that instead of having unlockables, that everything should simply be open form the start. Sakurai says that having secret characters is one of the fun parts of the Smash Brothers series. He says that in this digital age (this is not a direct translation, just my rewording of it), information moves far too quickly to be able to keep all of the characters a secret before the launch of the game. With Melee, in the weeks leading up to the game’s release, a new character was revealed each week. Not every single character was revealed, but some were. He says he wants to keep some characters secret until the “very end,” just as he did with Melee.

Considering all the secret characters in Melee weren't profiled on the site until the game's release, and Sakurai is following this same method, I think it's safe to assume that he'll be keeping all the secret characters secret until some blabbermouth spills the beans the day of release...

(This doesn't prove that Snake's profile won't make it on the site before release due to the weird circumstances of having a known, unlockable character, but who knows...)

Ah, I see.

For curiosity's sake, which characters were revealed up to the release of Melee? Who stayed a secret?

But yeah, it doesn't really matter because we're guaranteed to know all of the characters the day it launches in Japan anyway, unless the Japanese roster will turn out to be different, which I highly doubt...

If I am not mistaken the new Melee characters confirmed before the game was released were:
Bowser
Peach
Zelda/Sheik
The Ice Climbers

The characters that stayed a secret were:
Mewtwo
Ganondorf
Mr. Game and Watch
Marth
Dr. Mario
Young Link
Falco
Luigi
Jigglypuff

If what the website says is true then that means that we won't learn if Sonic is in the game till after the game is released...

Probably not the day of. Odds are it will again take a while to unlock certain characters.

We'll see, but I'm sure there are quite a few people who will play the game all day to get everything unlocked.

As S_B would say...ESKIMOS!!

This also proves that the claim of Pit being the sole old school character is bullcrap, meaning that other characters can make the cut (go Little Mac!).
