Interesting, given that one of the collectible trophies in SSB:M was a "devil"-like character that was removed by NoA for the North American version probably because of religious issues.  There was another trophy where the "devil" term was replaced with "ogre".

But now we have an assist trophy that actually affects gameplay called "Devil" from "Devil World".  Are they going to keep that?  Rename it?  Has NoA lightened up?  Or do they figure that a slight reference can't be too bad for a T-rated game?

At the same time, though, I thought SSB:M would've been rated E10+ had the rating existed at the time...not that SSB:B couldn't be rated T...

It might just be that whatever over paranoid person in NOA convinced the team to pull the trophy because it had no bearing on gameplay... now that this trophy does, Mr. Over Paranoia's case doesn't hold as much water.

Actually, I think it's because the people who decided to have the trophy removed in Melee no longer work at NOA.  I mean, 90% of NOA employees have left so there's a good chance their gone too.

Pointless Trivia Time:
Devil World was released in a number of European countries, yet Tamagon's (the player character from said game) trophy was completely removed, as in hard coded out, from the European version of SSBM, while in the American version of Melee the trophy just could not be obtained through legitimate ways, such as the trophy lottery, but one could add the trophy to their collection through use of a cheat device or by other illegitimate means.

I started going to church recently and found that the adult Sunday school teacher is a Pokémon fan (and he's a doctor, too).  I got him some Pokémon he couldn't get and we've been exchanging emails about Pokémon this week.  I was going to tell him about the Pokémon Trainer in SSB:B, but I think I'd better direct-link the post about it, and even so after the Devil isn't the top of the main page.  >_<

I'm sure he knows it's a game, and it's not a big deal, but I still don't feel comfortable going, "hey, look, it's the Devil!  Check it out!"

(On a side note the church bought a GameCube and SSB:M for one of the rooms for the kids.  Awesome.)

Edit: Seeing the Gamecube controls on the menu for the sticker album confused me for a second haha.

Interesting to see the Gamecube button controls there in that one shot, though

Well I guess they can put a lot more of those in than trophies.

Some of the wording in this update makes it sound like trophies are still in. If they are that would just be to much to collect in my opinion.

*awaits someone to try to make the claim that non-games are corrupting everything due to their inclusion somehow*

Anyway, I guess these feature could be kind of neat if you could send the saved pictures to others through the Wii.

Dudes, seriously, this is so cool.

Stickers are micro-rewards. My mom used them to great effect in some part games she threw at my little cousin's b-day. The way she did it was to give each kid a "trophy card" (a cardboard placard in the shape and color of a trophy with their name on it) and after each game, award the winning team "3 stickers each" and the losing team 2, which each person got to pick out and put on their trophy card.

Then, at the end of the games, whoever had the most stickers got first pick from a bunch of assorted prizes on display. It was great.

Stickers are, like I said, micro-rewards. They don't replace trophies, but introduce another, more frequent, micro-sized reward system that can give players reasons to play again and again and again.

And the things you can do with them! Make a sticker book, or make sticker comics... GENIUS!

... my Mom's a genius too. Whatever little household innovation she does is SURE to be a consumer product in a year or two. There are spies in our house.

...wow... so awesome...

HOORAY FOR POINTLESS COLLECTING!

I'm surprised no one has analyzed the stickers we have seen so far.

Many of the stickers are of characters that are already in the game. Are these stickers hinting at characters being in Brawl? :p

I think some of these characters might be assist trophies:
Dr. Lobe (Big brain academy)
Balloon fighter
Monkeys from Jungle beat

The images seem to be stock from other games, really, like the shot of Wario from Strikers, and what...

So I really wouldn't look that deeply into it, unless you find an original image with something new.

It would be cool if you could actually place the stickers on your fighter.
Still, this may be a great way to add some serious nostalgia with relatively little extra dev time.
I mean the appeal of the trophies in Melee was just being reminded of all these obscure characters.
Making 3D models of them all seemed kind of like a waste.  I mean who REALLY looked at more than a few of them them for all that long and from different angles?  Hopefully like the trophies, the stickers will come with a little bit of basic information as well.
I think there will be collectible trophies as well but just the assist trophies this time.

Also the appearance of the Big Brain professor makes it pretty clear Sakurai isn't ignoring the "new" Nintendo in favor of the classic Nintendo.
This makes it even more likely we'll see a customizable Mii as a fighter. Maybe even a Wii Sports themed stage. I bet we'll get some kind of funky Brain Age assist trophy as well. Maybe a big floating head?

I was partly joking considering that every time we get an update we analyze it to death.

But its hard to deny that the stickers are of characters we know are in the game, so I suspect a couple of them are also in the game.

Mashiro, that DK pic is from Mario Baseball on the GC.

"What's that image of DK from? The one with the boxing glove? And what's he holding in his other hand?"

Good question. It's the only graphic I DON'T recognize.
I'm thinking it has to be from DK64 which is the only game I recall Donkey putting on boxing gloves in. But that wasn't until the very, VERY last boss.
So I don't see why there'd be promotional art for it.

Edit: Aww, now I feel dumb. The ONE Mario sports title I haven't played lol.

It'd be great if we could save our sticker pages as images in our Wii's memory and then send them to friends... and snapshots too!

I keep looking at this update and can't help but think that this is Brawl's cheapest part to date.

I mean, how long does it take them to turn old JPG files into stickers? 1 minute?
