After all the hype for the Corocoro scans, I think tonight's update will probably disappoint...

I've been saying that for a while now.

The magazine problably worked hard to get the info. It would've been mean on Sakurai's part to post the info before the magazine.

It's different audiences, though, and he has full right to post whatever he wants on the blog. He's the one generating the info after all.

Double ATs Stafy and Waluigi.

While I am kind of sad that Stafy is not a playable character I am happy he at least is an AT.

I like this update!

Its disappointing that an unique character like Stafy is an assist, but great that Waluigi has been kept away from the roster.

Plus, Waluigi's attack looks cool. I love the fact that they paid tribute to his first appearance by giving him a tennis racket.

Overall good update!

Sorry, but half the roster came from the Mario universe.

Luigi should be the last character to join.

I love Waluigi, I always play as him in Mario Kart, Mario Party, and the Mario Sports games, but there's no way they could make an interesting and unique fighter out of him based on his game appearances. The AT does look cool and I'm glad he gets to appear in the game.

I wanted Waluigi playable too, but I'm really just glad that he made it in to the game. I mean, there are differences between a robust roster and an excessive one.

I'm glad Waluigi is out and that Stafy was even given an AT spot...Good stuff, now the sour taste in my mouth from last evening's CoroCoro annoyance (which is confirmed to have NO new info) is gone...

However, I did find something interesting...I went back to look at the Fall 2007 video after it was mentioned in the rumour regarding the Ashley stage, and there really does appear to be a stage set in a spooky setting!

You can see a scraggly tree in the bottom right and the moon hidden behind clouds at the top...Of course, I think the best guess is that it's a Luigi's Mansion stage, but who knows?  It might just be the Battlefield stage at night! ='D

I was really hoping Stafy would be more than an AT. I also love Waluigi, but he is generic enough that I don't want him playable. Overall, good update.

Yes. It would be absolutely brilliant for a star from a game that nobody anywhere has ever heard of to be a character, but Waluigi would clearly be a terrible addition!

Just to be safe, I'm going to say that its either the battlefield stage set at night or the Luigi's Mansion stage.

I do admit that even if Stafy is obscure as all hell outside Japan it would've been nice to include new IPs in the SSB series. On the bright side, it does prevent Japan only characters from invading the roster (at least for now).

And like I already said, the roster already has lots of characters hailing from the Mario universe. We don't need anymore, just Luigi and that's it.

It was obviously a brilliant idea to add Fire Emblem characters that nobody had heard of in SSBM. We are up to how many games in the US now, 4 going on 5? Stafy is an awesome series and a great character. I would've loved to see Stafy as playable because of the reasons listed and because maybe it would make the series more popular in America.

The difference being that Fire Emblem characters actually make sense for a fighting game. Whereas a star who's only attack is spinning, doesn't.

Meh, that's a moot point. How about Sonic? His only move is to run fast and spin too. I'd say that it never hurts to get another great series into America, especially one like Stafy that should have been here in the first place, by making him a playable character. At the end of the day it's not that big a deal, but I would've liked to see him playable for various reasons.

I've always felt that one of the coolest things about Smash Bros series is its ability to make characters from a variety of genres work as fighters.

As true as that is, is Stafy a reputable franchise in Japan, one still receiving sequels?

If not, then I agree, but if so, they should bring the game over in a way which won't be risky, like WiiWare.

God knows, it's a great way to test the water for a game's potential appeal.

Yep. If I am not mistaken, there are 4 Stafy games, 3 on the GBA and a recent DS sequel. There was a GB Color prototype made but was turned into the first GBA title.

Wario even joined him in one of the GBA games in a quick cameo.

I hope that if they do release Stafy games in the US, they "translate" his name into "Starfy."

Well I'm sure we'll get music from one of the Stafy games put in the game as well, probably in either a Kirby or Wario stage since Kirby and Stafy are kind of similar and Wario made a cameo in Stafy 3.

If they put in music from an old and extremely obscure game like X in Brawl, then I'd imagine that a game like Stafy that has had four games and enjoyed moderate success over the last several years is guaranteed at least one song as well.

I'd like a "Stafy Collection" style game for DS.  All 4 on one card.
