So it'll be as annoying as all the normal codec messages (the second time thru)

they sure did recreate the metal gear experience!

But seriously this will get annoying on similar player “classic” mode if you can't skip it. It most likely won't be in Adventure mode since we might not be fighting playable characters.

and this just can't be in brawl mode, it just can't

I've never liked that part of his moveset. It's a bit too realistic compared to the lighthearted, cartoony violence in Smash Bros.

I thought that too from from the initial pictures, but in motion I think the move looks different; it now just looks like Snake's "disabling" somebody, which is probably enough to get past the ESRB.

Nope. It's a full-on neck-bender.

I'd hate to see the lawsuit which ensues if some kid impersonates Snake's move on his little brother. This is a T-rated game, after all.

I wonder why they didn't include them.

Me too. And just to put it out there the Codec conversations also do not appear on any of the other European pages.

I wonder if the third Metal Gear eluded to appear in the stage will be the actual Metal Gear in MGS4, seeing as how the GECKOs are not real Metal Gears. It would be mighty interesting if the MGS4 Metal Gear's first appearance is made in SSBB

I also think that the little Snake promo movie confirms the character intros, with Snake's intro appearing to be a malfunctioning stealth suit.

Although every time I get my hopes up about character intros returning they get dashed in a few days so I do not know why I get excited.

Well, I know it's still the same attack; I'm saying that the way it's animated, it just looks like he's choking him...very violently. If you're not familiar with the concept of breaking peoples' necks in such a manner, then the animation (not a selected screenshot) doesn't provide many details and makes it broad enough so it looks like it'd do what it actually does in-game: knock an opponent for a few seconds. If you are familiar...then you should know better not to try. This ain't wrestling, where all their moves are perfectly clear and quite easy to imitate.

Source? Main site still says "TBD", while the other major sites still have the "Rating Pending" for it.

Granted, Melee was T, but we have since gotten the 'E' rating, and I think the ESRB's general stance has loosened up. For example, take this near fatality move from this video, located at the end... and then consider that it's from an upcoming game that's rated 'E':

http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=1155084020

Basically, I think there's a large chance Brawl will be rated E this time.

EDIT: as for the update, yeah 8bit Lakitu

Retro, 2D assist trophies? If nothing else, this pretty much confirms that there will be a billion or so assist trophies. At this point, really, what's gonna stop them from having an assist trophy of virtually every Nintendo character ever? There'll be plenty of variety, that's for sure.

Also, when this update showed up in my RSS feed, only labeled "Excitebike," I could assume it wasn't a character, so my first guess was that it'd be a stage. That'd be pretty interesting, eh? An Excite Bike stage?

From what I understand, despite the ubiquity of the two-handed neck-crack in movies and videogames, it's nearly impossible to do in real life.

Seeing Lakitu makes me so happy.  I kind of wish they'd made a 3D model instead of using the sprites, but I'm not disappointed.

Doesn't need to be death, necessarily. Just injury.

If you want to talk on a real technical level, it looks more like Snake is obstructing the carotid artery in the neck, which decreases flow of oxygen to the brain, causing his opponents to pass out... =)

True, but when little Billy tries it out on little Bobby, mommy is still going to sh*t bricks and demand to know where he learned it.

You could also say the same thing about little Billy shooting little Bobby in the face with a luger.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Yes, but games filled with colorful Nintendo characters are a bigger target for this kind of thing because it's expected that children will be playing it due to the content.

I'm not seriously worried about it (it's Nintendo's job to be worried about it, not mine). I just think Snake would have been better off with a basic choke instead of a neck snap or just omitting the movie entirely, since he has enough to go on without the move as it is.

Kind of an odd choice for a Final Smash. I would've thought it'd be Arwing related.

I loved the landmaster levels in 64.  They were the game's best.  Glad to see it get some love, because in the GC game the landmaster levels were a pain.

This is more original, and it allows for random Arwing attacking on the Lylat Cruise or any other Star Fox stage...

(Also, this is my favorite screen humour update ever...There's just something hilarious about Diddy and Lucas dancing on the Landmaster as Zelda just sits there calmly... )

I love the double update and Samus's shields being lowered by Snake is pretty funny.   He keeps on hitting on her and hitting on her until her defenses are down and then begins to dodge his advances.  She is a very strong willed girl...she must listen to Pink.

I'm pretty sure Lucas is flipping the bird in that shot where they're standing on the tank.

I can't wait to try out its law-breaking power for myself.

I'm not to fond of the vehicles.  In particular this one seems to be big enough it would take over 1/3 of the stage, for the stages we've seen.  I just don't feel they have a good fit with the core of SSBB.  Maybe in the single player or event mode...
