Present for Evan: The Bourne Ultimatum discussion.
« on: August 03, 2007, 09:58:25 PM »
Just saw the movie tonight. I'm not going to get into my thoughts right now because it's late but I just thought I'd start this thread to give Svevan someplace to release his thoughts on the movie. We all know he's going to see it also.

I'll give my impressions later but I will say this for now. Very great in the beginning and middle. The end just didn't seem to compare to what came before it.

You know, the previews for the film make me wish I had scene the first two so I knew what the hell was going on (yes even just for the previews lol).

Man, if you haven't seen the Bourne films yet, rent them soon. The Bournse Supremacy has the greatest car chase ever put to film. Once you've seen it every car chase seems sad in comparison.

Even better than Bullitt?

Yeah, even better than Bullitt. It makes Bullitt's car chase look slow and tame. And Bullitt is the only other car chase I would classify as one of the all-time greatest.

The car chase in Bourne Identity is very good, definitely in the top 10. Bullit is notable because it, along with The Great Escape, set the standard for things to come. I think the car chase(s) from Ronin slightly edge out the Bourne Identity.

The greatest, however, may be the car chase from the Blues Brothers.

That's a special case on account of having Ray Charles and James Brown sing in the same movie. Thus it is exempt from all rules and regulations.

I only saw the first movie and since they basically changed the entire plot from what it was in the book I am not excited to see any more of them.

That was about as awesome as I expected.

LATE EDIT: To clarify, I was talking about the movie, not that link a few posts above me. My current film of the year.

Thoughts forthcoming. I have to see the movie first. I've been out of town in Portland since Thursday. While I was there I got to see Paprika and Goya's Ghosts, and 2001: A Space Odyssey and Paths of Glory were playing at a Kubrick retrospective. It was, to say the least, an awesome weekend.

And that's why the thread is titled present for EVAN! In a side note, that's how I feel about Transformers, although you can skip the DVD part.

Anyways, you need to get with it Evan. I'm going to be seeing the movie again this weekend so now we'll really be ready to get into a discussion of it. I'm interested to see what it will be like to watch it again knowing what happens now. Not going to be much tension.

Watched it yesterday, action scenes (fighting, extreme car chases) were good, the rest of the movie was just comical in my opinion.

Karl, make sure you pimp that movie podcast with a link somewhere. I forgot where it was located.

I could've gotten the plot (the government is as bad as terrorists) by flipping on MSNBC or CNN.

I'm really reluctant to watch this because it looks like Bourne is too uber.

P.S. I did finally see this, um, in October of last year? Yeah it was good. Supremacy is better.

I think Supremacy lost some of the illusion of believability. The CIA just came across as dumb for falling for his tricks for the third movie in a row. The bathroom fight was intense though.
