Phantom Hourglass Claims Game Critics Award

The next handheld Zelda gets some hardware.

The http://www.gamecriticsawards.com'>Game Critics Awards have announced the winners for their Best of E3 2007 awards.  While there were fourteen Wii and two DS games nominated, only one Nintendo-developed title won an award.  The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, the next handheld entry in the seminal franchise, won for "Best Handheld Game".  This is its second straight win in the category, as it won the same award for E3 2006 as well.

The victory is significant because this year's category featured stiff competition in the form of hotly-anticipated portable titles God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP) and Contra 4 (DS).

The only other award-winner playable on Nintendo platforms was Madden NFL 08 (Wii, DS), which won for "Best Sports Game".

As if God of War could touch a Zelda game...

No other Ninty games winning awards pretty much proves these awards a joke, though...

Well, I got curious and clicked on the link, and it shows a list of where the judges come from, which people can see here:

Fairly odd mix of backgrounds. What stuck out to me, though, was the addition of: PC Gamer, Games for Windows, Official Xbox Magazine and PSM. Now personally, I wouldn't have included any judge whose area of expertise, or work, was focused on a single company or console. Or to at least get a even balance... although there is nothing picked that would cover just Nintendo games from that list.

I see no Nintendo on there. There is not much of a balance.

Why isn't Nintendo on that list somewhere? Totally unfair voting. Can't believe Mario Galaxy didn't win best action adventure.

Hasn't Nintendo Power folded? If so, then there are no Nintendo-specific magazines anymore.

Actually I think Nintendo Power is now made by a 3rd party of sorts. In regards to these rewards, is there anyone really surprised? THe categories and the games included made no sense, so why should the results make sense?

Hey there are web sites on the list! NWR shoulda been up there!

Also Nintendo Power hasn't folded yet but is rumored to be soon because of Matt over at IGN saying something about it coming to a close in September or something. I think nintendo power is made by a 3rd party as well GP.
