SDCC 07: Exclusive: Teen Titans Movie to Be "Real"
Scripter compares project to Batman Begins and Watchmen.

Quote

"It's not light and frothy," he says. "It's not silly. I want to play the characters so they feel real to us, not like people we can't understand. And I think Nightwing is a great character for that."

. . .

"I love the Perez-Wolfman stuff, so we're definitely looking at that, but I don't really want to get into who the team we're picking is yet," he says. "But I'm a huge fan of Marv Wolfman's work and I've talked to him about this a little bit. We're friends and if I can be true to his feeling that you get from those books, I'd be very happy."

Sounds interesting. I really got into the cartoon series when they started going actual story arcs so I look forward to what they turn out.

I used to really enjoy watchting Teen Titans. Bummer they stoped it. I think it would be cool.

Anyways, how would you get X-Men out of this? I don't get it...

So is this Live Action?  That could be very interesting.  If they are using Nightwing I hope they do a flashback type thing or later in the Teen Titans history because I don't think I want to see the team just forming up.

Nightwing is the original Robin, Dick Grayson.

At a certain point in the Batman storyline Dick has it out with Bruce and he ends up leaving Gotham City. He goes to a new city and establishes himself as Nightwing as he no longer wishes to be known as Robin.

(I don't know that much about his background but that's the gist of it).

I wonder what the casting on this will be like. Since Cyborg was on Smallville, the same guy should be in the movie. Not because of Smallville, though, but just because I like him as an actor. Famous Jet Jackson, anyone?

Doesn't Nightwing eventually come back to Gotham?  I also thought that was after his Teen Titans day or another Robin not Dick.

You're probably right Ceric, I'm not too familiar with the real official Batman / Teen Titans mythos and story.

Here is the low down according to Wikipedia:

Quote

In pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths continuity, the maturing Dick Grayson grows weary of his role as Batman's young sidekick. He renames himself Nightwing, recalling his adventure on the Kryptonian city of Kandor, where he and Batman meet the local hero of the same name.

Nightwing: Secret Files & Origins #1 and Nightwing: Year One tell the full post-Crisis version of how Dick Grayson gives up his identity as Robin (having been "fired" by Batman) and is inspired by the legend of an ancient Kryptonian hero named Nightwing. This tale retroactively erases the notion that anyone else before Grayson and Bette Kane ever held the titles of Nightwing and Flamebird, except for the birds and the legendary figures named after them.

Uncertain what to do with his new-found independence, Dick considers giving up fighting crime to study law, but he couldn't imagine his life in any other way. Turning to someone that he knows would understand, Dick asks Superman what he should be, if not Robin. In reply, Superman tells a tale of long ago on Krypton, about a man who is cast out of his family, just like Dick. He dreamt of a world ruled by justice, and set out to protect the helpless and victimized as Nightwing. Dick then decides to honor the legendary Kryptonian by renaming himself Nightwing.

In an adventure in which all of his Titans teammates are captured by Deathstroke the Terminator, and delivered to the H.I.V.E., Dick reveals his new identity of Nightwing and helps to free them with the help of Jericho. Grayson finally moves out of the shadow of the Bat, and would lead the Titans through some hard times. He endures brainwashing at the hands of Brother Blood, his relationship with Starfire would suffer due to her marriage of state and he would be deeply affected by the fact that Batman trains a new Robin (Jason Todd) only for him to be killed at the hands of the Joker (see also: "Batman: A Death in the Family").

There's some different continuities like Post-Crisis that can all be read about on the wiki posted here.

Marv Wolfman/George Perez Teen Titans stories once dominated the comics scene, more popular than X-Men. I really hope they pull this off. But I wonder who'll they'll have as the baddie. Deathstroke the Terminator would be cool, but he was very prominent on the cartoon, and they had Trigon on the toon as well. Brother Blood is possible, though there's still a connection to Trigon. The Brotherhood of Evil would be a nice balance, though it adds to the X-Men feeling, not to mention their role on the toon. Not that being in the toon should rule them out, but it sounds like the creators want to distance themselves from it.

Could be fun. I'm looking forward to it.
