Topic: PC Monitor Problems! need advice

Yeah, nothing big, but it's abit alarming/troubling. Recently my Monitor, "Compaq FS7550" has Horizontal gray/whitish  lines on the very top screen, their kinda spread apart and only show at the very top of the screen, and only go about 1/2 an inch of the 17" monitor.

I tried the de-magnatizing feature, but the lines still remain. It's not bad, but it's bugging me. Can anyone help? xD

If worse comes to worse, and you have no other solution, try taking a magnet to it, then using the demagnetizing feature again.  Though don't blame me if that doesn't help, or even makes it worse.  It's a CRT, right?

Its on its last legs. Even if you get it straightened out, it will come back, possibly worse than before. That is speaking without knowing your environment. There are office people who report monitor problems, and it turns out to be their paper clip container or something equally silly.

Promise me that if you are going to throw it away, as a last ditch effort, you do boil it to see what happens...

it's a CRT monitor, and the de- maganatizing feature is built in the monitor. This didn't started until I re arranged my setup and put it onto a new desk. I have a MarioKart Telephone by the monitor. Could that be the culprit?

mind you it's not severe, it's just annoying. I moved the Phone, but nothing has change. What could've done this?

Take that monitor to a recycling center and pick up a used 17" Montior. They can be found for $15-$30

That happened to my parents' TV not long ago.  They were able to get it fixed for less than the cost of replacing it, so it might be worth it to find a repair shop.

Another possibility is the connection to the pc is damaged. This happened to me, though I was using a dvi to svga adapter and the weight of the cord loosened the internal pins on the graphics card.

A way to test this is when do you see the problem? Can you see it if you turn the monitor on while the pc is off? Can you see the lines during POST? Or do they come up with the Windows Logo screen? If its no.1 then its the monitor, no. 2 its the graphics card, no. 3 it still might be the graphic card or damaged drivers that just need a re-install (it does happen, nothing to be concerned with).

And TVs > monitors. If you're looking for a CRT, you can find one cheap, unless you can find a place to repair it for under $30.

you know what? thatguy is right. ive boiled many a moniters and they all worked great. just bring it to me, the mighty boiler, and i shall boil it for a discound of $15. your choice. take it or leave it.

I'm gonna try your advice, but my monitor plugs straight to the VGA. The pins are all fine, the lines just appeared all of the sudden. I've tried seeing if it was my card by plugging the monitor directly to the onboard VGA and having the AGP disabled. still get the lines, so I'm gonna uninstall and re-install the drivers.

You haven't verified this monitor on another PC yet?

I have not really the option to. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, but to no avail. same results.

The Monitor is atleast 4-5yrs old.

Do any friends or family have a laptop with ext. VGA?

Those are relatively precise.  Tell me How long do you keep your monitor on on average.  Is it 24/7 for those 4-5 years or more like 3-4 hours a day?

good question, it's never constant. it may be 7-8hrs. 5-12hrs a day.

Thats a full workday.  Its about time for it to give the ghost MysticGohan.  I think what we are seeing is degradation that times brings.  Mostly my experience with outside influences doing things they are not as neat.  There's bending.
