Same here. It would do more harm to the series' than good.

If Nintendo is ever going to do an MMO it will be based on Pokemon. It's already a RPG,in the more traditional sense, though I know Zelda is taged as an RPG . . . which I don't agree with. ANYWAY . . . there's online communities already up with mock online tournaments, IRC chats dedicated to the trading of Pokemon, trading of items, and setting up online battles.

The inclusion of online play on the DS and Wii version went over extremely well and the next logical step would be to plan out how to get all these people to pay a monthly fee to play all together online in one big expansive pokemon universe.

That's a very good question . . . if it was truly a full blown MMORPG I would assume they would. I know Nintendo has a stance of free online play but the sheer volume of people that would play the game would undoubtedly lead to expenses that regular Wifi online games just don't have.

They would probably need a dedicated server system separate from the current Wifi infrastructure, a development team to keep up with developing new content and tweaking existing content, a team of GMs, so on and so forth.

If they DIDN'T charge for it, I would be shocked and I am sure Nintendo would overthrow Blizzard's WoW as the company with the most popular MMO =)

Why we have no Pokemon MMORPG still confuses me. The cartoon pretty much laid the groundwork for it, and I actually like the idea of a kid taking off from home with little attention given to things like food and shelter, because he wishes to enslave tiny adorable monsters.

Seems like a game that you couldn't possibly screw up.

But eh. I don't think Nintendo wants to fork over the cash for a perpetual online world, so I don't expect it to ever happen. At least not until they hear about WoW, which they seem to do an astonishing job of continuing to remain clueless about.

It doesn't confuse me. Pokemon is a game completely based around PvP. That is suicide if you want a mass market MMO, because casual players don't want to be harassed, they don't want be bullied, and they want PvE content.

The Pokemon franchise is awesome, don't get me wrong, but the very core of the gameplay drive would need to be reconceptualized if they brought it MMO.

You could make the game design based around the current game set up where the main difference would be you could access all regions of the Pokemon universe as oppsed to just one. Each region would still have gyms and such and even NPCs to battle you for XP and money just like it is in the existing game set up.

The PvP element would be that you can walk around and challenge people to pokemon battles and you can easily include an "ignore" option if a player is buggin you with repeated requests.

It isn't WoW where I can run around and just slaughter someone in a non-contested zone.

I'm not saying it would be easy to get the Pokemon MMO formula to be just right to appeal to everyone but the game isn't that poorly set up as is with how things work.

To the Nintendo philosopher, the Pokemon roleplayer, The MMO dreamer, the cost-conscious developer, the lore delver, the world explorer, and the casual player within me... that sounds absolutely lifeless.

A Pokemon MMO should be more than a reskinned generic Korean MMO #658. I may be an idealist, but that's my stance.

They've heard of WoW. But they've also heard of Auto Assault.

"Hey guys! Blizzard has like 8 million subscribers! This MMO thing is FREE MONEY! With a $15 million investment, by this time next year, WE'LL BE RICH."

Seriously, the only genre that can rival FPS' for how congested, contested, faddish, expensive, risky, difficult, problematic, ridiculous, and disappointingly similar to everything else out there are MMO games. And I really, really, really want to play MMO games.

I'm going to take the fun route and list off some things that will be considered a fanboys dream than any prediction that might actually come true.

1. star fox wii: comes with a headset for online, in-game, chatting for co-op missions as well as multiplayer. The game will have free roam and linear levels, though linear levels will have more routes to take with different boss battles. This would be good for co-op since your team can split up and open up new paths to reach andross (or whomever the enemy is).

2. Mother wii: not a new game but remakes of all 3 mother games in one little package. The game will have more of 3D sprite look to it. Enhanced soundtrack as preorder bonus.

3. Goldeneye as a wiiware title, enhanced for online multiplayer*

4. DS-Wii connectivity announcement: GB/GBA games added to VC to be played at home or on the go.

5. Mario Artist announced for wii: dedicated game as opposed to a channel so it doesn't use up system memory, includes all 5 parts of the N64DD expansions, uses wiimote and ds for input. Example: draw a box or circle around an object you wish to draw on, the field you circled transfers to ds screen for zoomed in look for more precise drawing.

6. DS camera announced: finally get to put our face in games like we were meant to do in Perfect Dark, doubles as video chat for ds and wii games

and heres a non nintendo one: new Killer Instinct for 360 but it turns out sucky cuz Rare sucks

Remember i said in the beginning this was a fanboy wishlist and not a prediction of what we'll actually see

I think a DS Camera is in the works, as I've people mention Face Training for the DS being made by Nintendo. I think it was a facial muscle exercise game where you have to contort the muscles on your face to match those in the game.

I'm not sure if that is a real game, but someone somewhere had mentioned it, and it sounded bizarre enough to be true.

EDIT: See I knew I saw that mentioned somewhere, I just couldn't remember where.

p.s. I don't think a Pokemon MMO is likely to happen as Nintendo wants everyone to continually buy more games from them and the 3rd parties. But if 8million of you are stuck playing just PokeMMOn for the next 8-12+ months then you aren't buying other games. That is not very good for a company that needs healthy 3rd party support and therefore need individual game sales to remain high.

EDIT 2: I expect to see Rock Band get announced for Wii but it won't be released at the same time as the 360 or PS3 versions.

Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Kid Icarus...Wii Sports II (come ooooon, Wiiplane!)...Some other random non-game that will sell a million copies, probably by taking some boring, menial task and making it fun...Metroid 2D DS...New Super Mario Brothers 2...New RPG (most likely from Monolith) shown in video form...And I think that's all I'd like to see...

Wow... that's VERY true, and a great reason why a Pokemon MMO would be a horrible idea on Nintendo's part.
